Benchmade Adamas 275 vs Spyderco PM 2

Haha wow. Everyone, thanks for the input. But now hearing what the folks have to say is actually making my decision a bit more difficult =p

It all comes down to what you want. The PM2 being more practical may never balance WANTING the Adamas. Wants matter a lot. The decision doesn't need to be rational to be right for you.

The Adams is very heavy and thick. Not very fun to carry more often then not, most people don't carry it on them at all times.
That makes it more of a specialty knife and not an everyday carry knife.

The Adams is a cool knife but no matter how hard it tries, it will never be a fixed blade.

The pm2 is light and thin, better steel with great edge holding, corrison resistance, and sharpening, better cutting geometry.

The pm2 will be a much more practical and efficient tool for everday cary tasks. The Adamas will be kind of like a karambit. It's cool to carry it around and show it off, but you will probably find that after the honeymoon wears off, you wont be reaching for it when you need a knife to do something practical in the edc world.

Well looks like I made my decision. Para 2 it is.

Any good sites to purchase the Para 2?. My luck I'll end up buying a knockoff.

Aww... You are so large the PM2 will look like nailclippers in your hand! But if you want high quality nail clippers, then so be it ;)

Here's the list of dealers we're allowed to recommend:

All of them should be easy about returns and careful not to send you a knockoff. 1sks is actually owned by the owner of the forum, so if you do end up getting a knockoff, you can complain directly to him :p

Zero

Bladehq had them with brown scales and S35VN,,,, that would be my choice
Never mind, sold out

The pm 2 is super pointy. Not a bad thing. I always have a Swiss Army knife in alox cadet so can use the screw driver for light prying. Or a fixed blade too.

If you ain't got an Adamas, your missing out.

I wish there was a way to actually hold a Para 2 in my hands. I've felt the Adamas. I know the Para 2 is lighter but I just want to see if it actually feels like a $130 knife

Just watch the exchange, you should be able to snatch one up for under $100 pretty easily.

I would prefer the PM2 over the Adamas any day but IMO, the only downside of the PM2 is the price. I just think it is hands down better than the Adamas for an EDC blade. But actually, I prefer the lowly Tenacious over the PM2 for EDC tasks and hikes. I never really got into the PM2 and it basically sits dormant in my collection. I am one of those who don't understood the fascination with the model. It is definitely a market-generated phenomenon. It is one of those knives that when I finally pulled the trigger after reading the scores of positive reviews, I expected a lot, but it just never spoke to me and I hardly ever use it. I think the handle just doesn't jive with me. Too much handle and not enough blade.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of lol.

Love that tenacious,,if you like it over the pm2,,, you'd love the Manix 2

That can be said for either knife, though. You won't know until you try it and hold it etc. Everyone has different tastes and preferences. If you go only by opinions, you might get lucky, then you might not. Go into an outdoor sporting goods store and hold them(assuming they are in stock). I am pretty sure that would be enough to make up your mind. I am not saying the PM2 isn't an excellent blade. It has great steel and constructions and makes a awesome lightweight EDC blade. I just found that once I got hold of one, it didn't jive with me so I guess I am the rare exception. But that is me, not you. Tons of people love the knife.

Also, I have no user experience with the Adamas. But I have held it many times in the stores while window shopping at the hunting store here. Whenever I hold it, I ask, what would I do with it? Would it replace any folders in my EDC rotation? No. No way would I consider it as an EDC blade and lug it around in pocket or sheath. Perhaps a field knife on a camping or hiking trip in place of a small/medium fixed blade? Probably not. I would just carry one of my small/med fixed blades, which is lighter, less bulky, and more robust due to its construction,. As a collectors item? Perhaps.

I have both a Manix XL and regular model. I love the XL but I find that with the regular version, I don't like the way the lock integrates with my hand position when closing. I like to use one-handed closing and find I can't get enough grip with the frame to get my fingers in the right spots to press the mechanism tightly enough. I have XL hands and the Manix XL works fine but I just don't like dealing with the lock on the regular. I can close the Tenacious with no issues due to the positioning of the liner lock.

I own a good number of Spyderco models but I always just keep going back to the Tenacious. Something about it just gels with me. I wish they offered the regular manix with a Framelock or Liner lock. Or just have a S30V version of the Tenacious. I am not a real big fan of the Manix lock in general. Tries too hard to be like the BM axis but the mechanism is too tight and lacks the smoothness of the axis.
