Been a Benchmade fan for many years, need something different. Dropped Kershaw after they sold out, plus I only really liked their leek (which was nothing more than a box cutter... a fantastic box cutter).

Requirements:

Folding knife
Made in USA
AXIS type of locking mechanism (liner/frame locks are garbage and dangerous)
Assisted opening

(Microteks are hard to find and their website is shit, please don't suggest one if you don't have a link)

I think you are out of luck with those requirements. If you ditch the assisted opening, which really isn't needed, you could take a look at Hogue. Hogue also makes the Ritter RSK.

You're going to need to compromise on one of your requirements if you want to find an assisted axis lock knife not made by Benchmade. Benchmade is the only USA--based manufacturer who currently makes assisted axis lock knives. SOG and Gerber make assisted axis lock style knives, but they're not made in the USA. Other companies make axis lock style knives in the USA, but none are assisted.

Damn... I was afraid someone would confirm this...

As for the people who are going to hate on me for the liner/frame lock comment...

I do not trust them when making a stabbing motion, especially when I have a death grip on the handle. It failed on me a few times and the last time it happened I had a deep laceration. If there is new technology that prevents this, please inform me.

Why do you need it to be assisted? Also, how often are you stabbing things?

I dont think axis + assisted even exists, and if it does...... lol why? Springs for days.
Not a lot of USA made axis-likes that arent benchmade.

Hogue Deka, RSK MK1

Spyderco Manix 2

SOG Terminus, Kiku, Seal XR

I usually use a fixed blade when stabbing zombies and practicing my Rainbow 6: Siege cosplay.

I did just realize that list I made is in order - most important to least important... I suppose I can do away with assisted... but then I probably don't need to go custom...

The knife I've been using for the past several years has been Benchmade Barrage. AXIS + assisted + USA. The assisted part I got used to and may just expose my laziness...

With a lot of frame lock flippers, the flipper tab acts as a finger guard also. Im not sure how it could close if your hand is pressed up against the guard when the blade is open.

I don't want to rely on my finger to stop the blade from folding. I don't want to have to worry about the blade folding, that's the point here. Fixed blades are illegal where I live, if that wasn't the case I'd have a lot more options.

Ok well in that case I’d go with Hogue. They make what many consider to be the best value for American knives. I don’t own any but I like my Griptilians. Hogue makes one that is similar, with 20CV steel and a slightly different blade shape.

If you really want to stab stuff and have the least likelihood of the lock failing, you would be well served to consider a Cold Steel offering with a Triad Lock.

tony and unwisefool - thank you for the suggestion! I already see something I like

rhino, I find the triad style lock is too difficult to quickly close one-handed. I guess that is another requirement haha.

Thanks guys. Looks like I need to drop the assisted opening requirement in order to move on from Benchmade.
