benchmade alternative?

What’s at stake here is, someone else will be buying the framelocks and linerlocks that could have come to rest in your future collection. A tiny bit less competition for us, thanks for that.

Been a Benchmade fan for many years, need something different. Dropped Kershaw after they sold out, plus I only really liked their leek (which was nothing more than a box cutter... a fantastic box cutter).

Requirements:

Folding knife
Made in USA
AXIS type of locking mechanism (liner/frame locks are garbage and dangerous)
Assisted opening

(Microteks are hard to find and their website is shit, please don't suggest one if you don't have a link)
Hey man, me and Roberto are goin to practice stabbing want to come along?

For the activities you listed that you want to do, I think you would be best served by a Triad lock. I know you want an assisted axis lock, but the Triad is going to be your safest and best option.

Among the production folder lock mechanisms I’m aware of, the CS Triad is the most likely to keep the blade from closing on your fingers in a stab. Since you’ve experienced firsthand how a lock failure feels, I’m surprised this isn’t at the top of your list.

Oh and you should know that generalizing any broad class of lock mechanism as garbage is going to be somewhat insulting to those people that prefer them…
If stabbing hard objects with a folding knife is your thing, you should look at the Extreme Ratio FAO or the Miller Bros. T1: both use a pass through pin that holds the blade firmly in place.

I’m not worried about how fast I can CLOSE my knife, but that’s just me.

So you're also not competing in the Speed Reholstering World Championships (held concurrently with the Treating Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wounds Symposium)?
