benchmade consensus

I have 3 benchmades and a forth BM osborne that I bought as a gift for my son. he liked the look of the 940 with its smooth green aluminum scales but it was too slippery for his taste so he swapped it back for the same model only with the G10 scales which are nice and grippy. I bought it at knifecenter.com they have a great liberal return policy of “60” days which for someone like you that is up in the air its great to try a few models out from them as knife brands and models are such a personal thing. they have most other companies knives in stock too so you are not stuck with only Benchmade if you are not happy. Last two knives I just bought here on the forum where you can save a few bucks, but you need to know the exact knife you are looking for before picking one up here.

I'm down to three folding Benchmade knives. A D2 Griptilian, Volli, and a 531. I can't picture myself without a Griptilian. The 531 is a great knife but, I feel the Bugout is a better knife, overall.

Keeping that in mind, I have to suggest a full-size Grip of some sort. Maybe a Ritter if you can still find one. Pair that with a 531 or a Bugout and you have most of your knife needs taken care of. Add in a Benchmade 940 plus a Victorinox Cadet into the mix and your set for just about anything you would ever need a folder for.

The only ones I solid experience with are the mini bone collector axis (discontinued), 551 griptilian, and the presidio ultra
All of them are solid users, maybe a couple nocks for fit and finish, and the bone collector and the presidio (my friends knife that I have sharpened and worked on a lot) are older models and had pretty poor edge geometry from the factory, but that was easily fixed. The presidio is on of my favorites, super thinly ground and a very sturdy knife. My griptilian is also a very good user, came very thinly ground with a great factory edge on it because it is a more recent model.
Other popular models that I would recommend you check out are the casbah auto, 940, and crooked river. I dont own any of these but have handled them all and liked them, as do many others.

Please please please get yourself a Crooked River. I absolutely promise you will not regret it. I cannot tell you how much I love mine. Traded my first one away. I missed it so much I ordered another one that night. The "you never realize what you have until its gone" really sunk in. You will love it. Also, I recommend you pick up a Kershaw Launch 1. Super snappy and zero blade play in any direction. (like the launch 5 too). You could probably get them both for the price of an auto.

I’ll +1 on all the Griptilian suggestions.

Do your research and find the knives that are popular and try them out.

Mini Griptilian
Griptilian
940 series
Bugout

^^^ These are couple models to look at at least in the way of the axis lock. I’ve heard the most about these on a positive note.

If you like the heavier duty knives go for the Presidio II. The only question for a next knife I have is whether or not I want the full size auto(I already have the manual version) or to get the mini

And on the 8th day knife god Warren Osborne created the 940...And then he rested, as his work was done.. Benchmade 940, one to rule them all.

Yea, I love it that much. Had almost all the brands and popular models but this one is the one for me. Not the most creative interesting recommendation but it’s one I don’t hesitate on recommending.

There is no wrong answer here. The mini grip is a nice small edc and if you want something with a bigger blade the 710 in M4 steel
is a good one on the secondary market.

With Benchmade offering a blue million models, when I saw the title of the thread I thought there was a new model called the consensus. I though "man they are reaching for names!". Lol.

Tanto AFO II for the win.

Consensus? Good luck there..

That said, their Axis lock is excellent. Id say start with a Grip or a 940.
