Benchmade dropped the ball

Spyderco needs to broaden their marketing appeal as well.

They have the Manix. What about the Deprexxive, for those other days?
There is a Native. How about the Immigrant, or Invader?

Kershaw has that whole Chive, Scallion, Shallot, Leek thing going. What about the Carrot, Rutabaga, Potato, Bok Choi?

I think we are onto something here. Entire segments of the potential knife-using public who just can't find something named properly. This could easily go on and on. I mean, there are huge ranges of 3-digit numbers that Zero Tolerance has bypassed. Someone could just be waiting for their lucky number to come up, and then BOOM, instant sale.

I have to agree that I don't like the name, but can't say they dropped the ball otherwise. Looks like a nice knife and seems to be quite a commercial success too.

I can't seem to get my hands on one to try out because they are sold out everywhere.

I've actually used that term for camping focused vacations. "I'm bugging out for a week".

I'm holding out for the Kershaw Mangelwurzel.

I does seem to have a classic drop point "outdoors" design. "Outdoor recreation" is what Loveless designed his drop point for. Bugout seems appropriate.

As far a what a knife designed for use during pickup basketball knives would look like, I don't know. I don't know what I would use a knife for in that scenario.

Maybe a neck knife?
Some of those pickup games can get pretty rough.:mad:

Does make perfect sense.
They could've called it the stamina or something athletic sounding, or they couldn't just called it the feather lite ...ect.

Why? A drop point like that is an outdoors design. By your argument they could have called it the Silent Kill or the Rain Forest Chopper or the Mushroom Harvester....but it isn't any of those. And it's not purpose built for "sports carry."

It is named for what it is for.

I bought my wife a Bugout not too long ago, and she loves the hell out of it. She is currently training for a marathon, and she always runs with a blade. Delica, Dragonfly, or Bugout clipped in her waistband without any notice to weight at all.

I run with a Pacific Salt clipped in my shorts. Very light, secure clip, and can't rust. I sweat a lot. A neck knife would bounce around too much.

I can’t imagine jogging with a knife. I mean, it would just get in my way, what with the Bazooka, sawed off, Kevlar, and the SAM’s, I just wouldn’t have room for it. :( :p

When I was really into running, hmm, almost 40 years ago, running shorts didn't come with pockets. I used a little velcro pouch that attached to my running shoe laces just to carry a house or car key. I personally never had a need for a pocket knife when I was out jogging.

I have worn a Spyderco Delica clipped IWB to shorts around the house. The FRN handles are a little abrasive if they contact bare skin. When running, I can see that would be an issue.

All this over whether a marketing department chose the right name for a knife. Their other names - Presidio, Barrage, 940, Infidel, Adamas - are all very descriptive of the activity they should be used in. I know when I am out adamasing and barraging, exactly which knife to choose. Especially when I am engaged in some 940. Helps to know there is a matching knife.
