Been new to the knife world in the last year and a half. My current edc knives - Chaparral, Bugout, Mini grip and Buck Marksman. I have a coupon and free shipping with GovX so am looking at a new Benchmade. Looking at Mini Crooked River, Barrage or 940.
Would love to get your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Looks like you already have some BM in your collection so is the coupon only good on a BM knife or do you just have a preference for them?

Out of your options: 940. 575 Mini Presidio if you're willing to go with something else.

I have the 940, 943, 590, 583, 522, 535-gry, 551, and two 570 presidio II ......out of all of them the 940 for slimmer or presidio 2 for larger.....or 575 mini presidio for in-between. And govx is good to go just be ready to pay tax.

I’d also suggest checking out the Presidio II options. It’s my favorite Benchmade design.

I think it really depends on what you want in the knife. The 940 has a rather thick blade and tip for it's size. The handle is a little thin for hard cuts. The Barrage is more hand filling (the mini barrage is just enough more handle than the min grip IIRC; although I prefer the 575 in that size range) and is an assist if that's OK with you. The Mini CR has a clip point and feels like a small big knife, or a big small knife with thin handles.

They are all good, but IMO, I would go for (in order):
1. Barrage M390 or S30V versions (what I would probably use the most)

2. 940 (just because it's a legend... although I prefer the 943 with G10 customs scales in that category... makes it even more expensive)

3. Mini CR (personally I prefer my DE Buck knives in this style)

As a side note, my favorite BM's for EDC are the discontinued Presidio (over the new one), the Stryker Auto (handle design is different thant the Stryker 2 manual), and the 590 Boost with Micarta Keyman scales. Also, the 575 Mini Presidio 2 is a favorite when I want smaller than 3.5".

The only one I’ve had is the barrage which is definitely a sweet blade and the only one out of the three with the assisted opening (if that’s your thing) but they’re all fairly different knives. Depends on your needs I suppose but my vote (without any experience) is the mini cr because I have the full size and the mini is next on my list lol. Good luck on your endeavors brother

943 or a 943, or better still, a 943
