Benchmade griptillian or zt0566.

I have looked at it also. So many options and choices . So many knives on the market to choose from lol. I wish I could buy one of each
My Griptilian is a drop point but, I gotta say the sheepsfoot blade is very useful. A longtime friend has one and it is really nice to use when you are wearing gloves.

As for the tanto blade, I have found it to work well unless I am doing food prep.

I've never warmed up to tantos. Since I sharpen with guided systems mostly, I don't like dealing with two separate edges when it's time to sharpen. If I needed a tip like the tantos, I'd choose the modded sheepsfoot blade and the hole opener on the 550HG's. Otherwise, my choice on all of mine is the drop point.

I'll say this for the 550 models... that long curved cutting edge is really nice. Nice to use and nice to maintain. It's like using a PM2's cutting edge. And I like the hollow grind of the 154CM/Noryl models, the 550HG variant. Not all 550's are HG. I've also found that the tips on the 550's look plenty strong from the ones I've handled. Sort of like having most of the strength of a tanto tip without the hassle of dealing with the two edges.

I posted a little bit ago aski g about a 0566 or am emerson. I haven't gotten one yet but been looking at the griptillian and bugout. This will be my last buy for awhile so I need to be sure I'm getting the best bang for the buck.
I can be hard on knives sometimes, however most time I'm not. I just need something I know will cut and keep an edge. I like the 0566 alot but have heard alot about the grip and bugout lately. Any thoughts or reccomendatio.s

The original 154CM Griptilian is the best bang for your buck at around $100. Nearly indestructible and if you break something you can call Benchmade and get it fixed easy enough.
The 0566 is a classic ZT design. Great knife in S35VN or Elmax. I don't mind the weight but some might. One nitpick I have was the handle width; It was something like 0.40" and too narrow for my comfort. Its likely this knife won't show wear & tear like the others. And it comes tip up & tip down if that's important to you.
The Bugout seems fragile for someone who professes to be hard on knives.
The newer Griptilian 551-1 is a good upgrade but not sure its worth 75% more than the original.
The Knifeworks 551-1701 is nice upgrade but they seem out of stock at the moment.

Between the two I like the 566 better. It feels better in my hand and is a solid knife. The only drawback is the weight, it is more than an ounce heavier than the Grip. If you look around you might still be able to find one with an Elmax blade.

+1. The 566 fits my hand better. The Grips/MGs are good knives but they don't fit my hand well. I carry 290 lbs (and dropping) on an almost 6'8" frame. I don't worry too much about a few extra ounces on my knife.

I appreciate all the info and opinions. I would love to have either one but some things have come up so I won't be able to purchase one for a long time. Someday soon hopefully I will have a griptillian or zt0566. Just not in the cards right now . Again thanks

I wanted to correct what I had posted. I found a great deal on a grip so I ordered it. If it lives up to its reputation between it and a blur in s30v I should be equipped with knives to last for awhile. I have several others but these will be my primary carries that are in my pockets each day. I always carry two,one that is clean to cut food or something and another to do everything elsw. I will try to post and tell everyone how I like the knife. I pray GOD BLESS each of you.

My only gripe with the bugout and griptilian are lack of full steel liners. The liners seem to stop around the axis lock and not continue all the way to the end of the handle. Doesn't seem like a big deal on the grip but on the bugout you can squeeze the handles together and make them touch. That bugs me. Oddly enough the mini grip has full liners (probably because of its size).

Benchmade

Thank you. It will be my first benchmade.im sure it will be a great knife.ive wanted to try benchmade for a long time

I have owned several Benchmades, I doubt you will be disappointed especially since they really made some improvements in their QC department. The axis lock is really impressive and a lot of fun to play with. Let us know how you like your new toy when it finally arrives.

I actually had an 0566 before. Nice assisted opener with great blade steel. You will most likely be impressed with it as well.

I probably would have gotten one but I wanted to try a benchmade and it was quite a bit cheaper

Grip came today. I have to say I think I'm in love lol. Used it to cook some stuff on the grill. Flipped it open and closed a bunch already. It's a little stiff but I'm sure it will loosen with use. It is the first knife I've ever gotten that was this sharp outta the box. My only thing I wish was different which I knew already was that it was open pillar construction. But I think I will love this knife in the long run as well. The handles fill my hand well and I love the blade style. I like a knife with a blade that has a strong spine. Tip is pointed but still thick enough that I don't think I'm gonna break it. This is what I noticed so far. I think this knife is really meant to be a user not something to be on a shelf to look at. I'm really pleased so far

I've got a 566 and a BM Volli. If I had to take just one I'd grab the Volli for EDC. Lighter weight, true one hand EZ operation, just big enough.

Good point about the open construction, my Volli certainly gets its share of pocket lint but I just remember to blow it out once in a while, never caused a problem. I really dig the look of my 566 it's certainly more robust but it is heavier and not a seamless one handed closer IMO which fro me is important. In the office and out in the field the Volli blade shape has done all the light tasks (boxes, signs, lunch, rope etc,) I wanted it to, the Grip and Bugout would be right in that catagory. I can't see how you would go wrong with any of them.

I don't think you could go wrong. This is my first benchmade I love it already.

I have both the full size Grip, and 0566 for years, and prefer the o566. I don't mind the assist, but it can be de-assisted very easily. It is a little heavier due to the steel frame, but carries well, and I don't notice it. Don't have a Bugout so can't help yo there.
