Benchmade Griptillian worth it?

Did the price really go up 30%? A decent knife, but absolutely not worth it if that's the case. Little partial liners encased in cheap junky FRN......

I like Benchmade and plan on grabbing another Rift, but the Griptilian just doesn't add up. If pricing really went up 30% I don't know that I'll be buying anymore of their knives anytime soon.

Benchmade claimed on their forum that prices did NOT go up. Despite that, the cost to the customer definitely DID go up due to them not allowing internet distributors to discount any longer. This is their way of boosting the value of the BM brand. You'll now pay full MAP price which many here think actually did exactly the opposite to their value (I'm in that camp). There are several threads here about it.

I bought my last BM (a 710 D2) just before the discounts disappeared.

I love my mini grip, especially the axis lock, it makes opening and closing smooth, fast and effortless. Worth every penny to me, everyone should have a Benchmade manual axis lock knife in their collection and the griptilian is not only the least expensive manual axis knife, but also my favorite.

Everyone has their own idea on what is worth what. I think a better deal is one of their $200 LE knives like the blue/black contego coming out. I would also consider the Spyderco PM 2. I prefer Benchmade as an overall brand and lock. I do like the PM 2 though enough I bought four of them.

Full size Ritter Grip has been my work EDC for about 8 years-definately worth the money imho and
a great daily carry in the S30v steel.

Mini grip, full size or the 530 pardue would be the 3 best options price wise. All their other knives start around 180-230$
The 530 may look flimsy and small but it's actually very well designed. Ergonomic and not too small, just small enough. More blade options would be nice but w/e.

I have the Ritter mini grip. It's my only Benchmade and I like it a lot. I like the wide pocket clip;...hmm? I really can't think of anything I don't like about it.

A month ago when you could get a Mini for about $65.....yes. Now.........No. Much too much money for it to be worth it now.

You can get a Large Grip for $76.00. maybe lower but to me it's worth it, like I said BM has an excellent warranty. If you worry about price increase, everything is going up. What ever fits your budget. Happy New Year all. Gary

With the price increase to customers of internet retailers, Benchmade will lose sales. At full price, they re not competitive with some other popular brands.

I believe all benchmade knives have been increased by all of the major retailers. The Grip was a fantastic deal before it's price got hopped up. Try a Spyderco Delica, better fit and finish all for $50ish bucks.

Where?

You do know they increased dealer prices right? They now prohibit any discounts.

A plain jane full size Griptilian is now about $93.

The Griptillians have full liners. Their FRN is tough stuff. You may think they feel cheap but the reality is it's a very solid knife. You'll never break that knife unless you're abusing it. I have yet to see this supposed 30% price hike from the retailers I buy from. Not all of them will be bullied so easily by Benchmade.

The question of whether the Grip is worth the money or not is only answerable on a case by case basis. Knowing how anyone else feels is sort of irrelevant. Basically if the knife suits you, you'll like it. If it's not for you, you won't think it's worth it. But don't confuse personal preferences for poor quality. The knife is very well made, with good quality materials. There is no reason anyone should feel the knife poorly made or has a weak design. If you do, then you probably have unreasonable expectations or personal bias. The knife has been around for a long time. Only a superb design will be continually produced year after year.
