It seems they have been keeping an ear to ground. I just got a Knifework's M390 710, and am very pleasantly surprised. No huge writing on the blade, uncoated blade in a super steel, and THE EDGE! Holy moly, the edge!

My previous BM was a 950. And while it was very well made and a solid knife, it left things to be desired. I seemed to destroy 154CM easily, and the factory edge came dull and with a 50* bevel. It was also a porker for how thin the blade was. This 710 is hair whittling out of the box, and the bevel looks to be around 30*. I would rank this edge up there with a good new Spyderco edge, or an edge I would be satisfied putting on one of my EDC knives. Incredibly sharp.

Just wanted to say thanks Benchmade, keep up the good work. I'm sure some of the collectors out there may have been pissed at the second wave/production release of this sprint, but I am very glad that I was able to get my mits on one of these 710s.

Fantastic, I hope this isn't a fluke, and that it carries over to their regular production knives fresh off the line as well. My BM 943 came with a 50-or-so degree bevel... it took me hours on the sharpmaker to get that sucker reprofiled.

Ah damn... and here I thought my preorder afck was gonna be my last benchie [sigh]

Just when I thought I'd graduated to higher stuff like the burger and seb in my pocket, and the acies on my wish list, I've been finding myself hankering for some xhp military goodness, the police 3 I've always drooled over and now raving reviews on the m390 710...

If they make an m390 943 I'm SO screwed

Hey I got my BM 710 M390 from KW also today. It's a really fine knife and very sharp from the factory. I've never been a real big Benchmade fan, but this one is excellent.

How are the grinds on it?.
Does it come with the barrell spacers or solid backspacer?.

I m really excited for this one.

Solid backspacer, and the grinds look good. Normal 710 high flat grind with swedge, but everything is smooth and finished well. This is my first 710, and I'm shocked by how much blade they packed into this knife.

Crowned spine like the 710-1 or a normal spine?

Mine should be here tomorrow.

The spine is rounded, like the LEs.

I feel like this knife sets a good precedent for successful sprints. If you've got a winning design and high demand, why would you not want to continue producing those knives? Now if only Spyderco would take note for some of their successful sprints. :D

Oh yes, I greatly admire Benchmade for this action. I love the "to h*** with what the guys who want exclusivity think" attitude of the company.

In fairness, credit for this one goes to Roger at KW, not to Benchmade. This isn't a regular BM catalog item.

I think you're being facetious, but I agree with your above statement. My knives are tools that get used daily, and as such, I enjoy being able to buy the highest quality and performing models I can. I don't give a hoot if some middle aged gentlemen is upset that his safe queen isn't ultra exclusive designer knife stuff.

Knifeworks and BM teamed up to make a very popular knife, with high end materials. The demand is still there for it, so more were produced. I'd rather send my money to the manufacturer and dealer responsible than to Joe Blow's sprint markup. High end materials, listening to consumer criticisms, and allowing this knife to be a workhorse instead of a collector's item, for a reasonable price. What's wrong with any of that? :)

Now that I got the answer I wanted I feel like I shouldn't have asked because I ruined my own surprise... :p

Can't wait for mine to get here.

Oh believe me. I totally agree with you.

I really don't get the fact that some people find a knife special only if a lot of people want it and don't have it.

I myself find that what makes a knife special for me is how it performs and it don't matter one whit how many pieces are produced because that won't lessen the performance of the knife I have by one iota.

Like you I prefer to use high end materials, especially the steels with better edge holding. The only knives I have that have not been used are the backups. I do prefer to have backups for knives that I particularly like.

So no, I'm not being facetious.

BTW, I had to look up the meaning of facetious. :D

What is the difference between this version and the Limited Edition. They both have G10 scales, M390 steel and a crowned blade. Does it have a milled out hndle liner too? Aside form the writing on the blade I'd like to know what the difference is.

I've been asking BM to make an AXIS Stryker for years. Hope springs eternal.

There is a thread on the Benchmade forum that is 20 pages long requesting this very thing. I would buy and AXIS Stryker in a heartbeat. :D
