Benchmade Has Been Listening

Oh believe me. I totally agree with you.

I really don't get the fact that some people find a knife special only if a lot of people want it and don't have it.

I myself find that what makes a knife special for me is how it performs and it don't matter one whit how many pieces are produced because that won't lessen the performance of the knife I have by one iota.

Like you I prefer to use high end materials, especially the steels with better edge holding. The only knives I have that have not been used are the backups. I do prefer to have backups for knives that I particularly like.

So no, I'm not being facetious.

BTW, I had to look up the meaning of facetious. :D

My apologies then, I read your post wrong.

It started out as an all satin 500 run of 710's in S90v.
As BM won't use it,M390 was used.
Then it went to 1/2 Satin (250) & (250) in black DLC.
The rounded spine was a complete surprise.
(never really know what your gonna get with Dealer LE's, exclusives & Sprints till they show up)
The 250 in Satin sold out fast! The DLC not so fast.

So, Roger asked for a 1 yr. dealer exclusive Satin P/E 710 in M390, (As many customers just wanted a 710 in M390)
A std 710 in M390 is what was ordered. What was shipped is what BM built.

As a dealer exclusive KW can order more this year depending on demand.

Just what I know of it. The orig Black g-10 all Satin S90v 710 were my orig spec's.
M390 was swapped for S90v, with the round spine from the 710 GC added by BM.

With LE's & Sprints. Things happen. Sometimes good things = (M4 Millie lock insert and crowned spine 710 for example)
Some times its a bit of a surprise. (Think flat scales on the 805, then the Blue spacers on a knife that was spec'd out to be All Satin & sculpted G-10)
Its just the way it goes.
I know its a big deal to some if its not exact as to what everyone thinks its gonna be. (And described in the pre-order)
But that's just how it goes. Rather than slowing or maybe stopping these editions, folks that cant handle a little variance should probably not pre-order and wait till their out prior to purchasing. That's just the nature of these non production types of runs.

Example: The entire run of LE 805's were ordered with sculptured G-10. The order shipped with smooth g-10!
This was a big enough change where the knifes had to be shipped back for new scales.
The spacer color was left blue, rather than an all satin hardware that was ordered.
Its not as easy as it seems getting these small runs produced.
Its what's keeping me interested in BM & Spyderco these days.
I would hate for the Co or dealers to just say, its not worth the hassle due to all the complaints on such tiny runs.
Its a huge PITA for both the dealer and the Co.
That's why I posted some folks should wait till there built if they cant handle minor changes.

Here is how all the 805 LE's were originally made. Before being sent back for sculpted scales as ordered.
I kept one & Roger kept one, just for fun. Anyone else would have gone through the roof! LOL LOL

Imagine the horror smooth G-10 scales would have put some folks through!
And the PITA for KW and BM to get this straightened out.

Keeps it interesting.

Goodness.. an out-of-the-box sharp Benchmade. There is hope yet. :)

Well to be honest, the LE Shot Show AFCK I got was quite decently sharp too, just a bit obtuse in the edge.

Ya'll are really making me miss my plain edge TSEK. BM's sharpening must be all over the place. Every BM I've owned new, and all the replacement blades, have been at least able to shave hair off my arm. The replacement blades would do it above the skin. BM 710, BM 42, TSEK, Ares replacement blade, Pika II, TSEK replacement blade, and Griptillian. The TSEK and Ares replacement blades didn't even need rebeveling to hit the 20 degree/side edge angle on the Sharpmaker. The others did, but so did almost every other folder I've owned, including 2 Delicas. Rebeveling is hardly a unique thing to Benchmade.

I went by the Post Office on the way to work this morning and picked mine up. It's very nice, but the edge wasn't too great. No problem. Thank you, Roger.

I bought one of the 710-1 knives, not to keep in a drawer as a collector's item, but because I thought it was the only way to get a 710 in M390 to use.

What was "limited" about the run? The ugly writing on the blade? The cheap looking shiny pocket clip with rough edges and shoddy engraving of "Benchmade U.S.A"?

If I'd have known that a unlimited knife was coming out I would never have bought the 710-1. I could have also saved myself some money, as it appears that I paid a premium for ugly writing on the blade and a nasty pocket clip.

I think they released it because the Limited Edition did so well and the demand was very high.

Im kinda dissapointed to hear that the spine is rounded. I would rather have a flat spine like the regular benchmade 710's.
Can someone post a shot of the spine on this one from the side, and also from the top to see how it looks?.
Hopefully its not bad.

"I think they released it because the Limited Edition did so well and the demand was very high."

Bingo. 250 is a tiny run. KW thought this was going to be a standard 710 in M390.
So, you really cant get too up-set (those with the orig 250)
Some times "stuff happens".

I don't understand why it is so hard to produce and ship what you say you are going to? Why is it such a PITA to say this is what we are selling and then sell it, they make knives and sell them that is what they do.
If KW says this is what we want and BM says OK we can do it and then KW posts that information on their site I don't understand what the problem is?

The TSEK in M390 has become one of my all-time favorite knives. I'll swap out the pocket clip for one of the arrow variety, but that is insignificant. Although it looked as if it was not very sharp, it really was. I was able to easily puch the blade through 4 pieces of double walled cardboard.

Benchmade sprint runs are higher priced than if the same knife be regular run so for the 710 I payed around 180
and now it worth 140. This is "fraud" in my book but honestly because I'm not the a.hole that will buy the Benchmade or
Spyderco sprint run just because I can make some money later on. The people that do that are not knife people they
are cheap moth....ers and charge markup price that make me mad just reading it, and there goes the blade addict and
pays that price just to get his dose.
Goin back to the fraud thing what I mean is that it is a litle bit irritating and not honest from Benchmade to charge the
sprint run markup and the sale the same knife at a lower price. I believe that most of the people that bought the 710
sprint run will tell the same. Then again I'm happy that the moth....ers won't have the chance to do that on this one
All in all I love knives and the 710 is one of my favourites and one of the best folders around if not the best in it's class
and that is why I have 7 in diferent steel flavours.
Now that I've read the improvements I'm again siting on hot coal and contemplating no 8. The f....ing addiction you know

MFD
out

When I get one I am definately going to be sending it to Benchmade to have barrell spacers installed.
