i have bought brand new a rift and now a triage and both are amazing knives but on both of them the pocket clips were not touching the handle and fit very lossly in the pocket i have had to bend both pocket clips so that they were more secure in my pocket and so they did not make that weird vibrating metal noise when i pulled them out of my pocket.

Is this normal or just a fluke that i got two like that.

Have any of you had this same problem?

Dont get me wrong the knives are amazing and i love them but it seems like such a little detail, for the price you would think they would not over look the pocketclip.?

I have not had this problem with any other knife i have bought even the cheap a$$ s&w i bought like five years ago.

I think benchmades Quality has been sliping the last few years. Been buying spyderco and kershaw lately they seem to have top notch knives. I do have a few benchmades, I wish they would come out with a silver class of the old style knives and make the griptiien knives with g-10 scales.

I have the BM 755MPR and the clip is lousy. It is tight to the handle. It is Very Short and thick and rips the heck out of my bluejeans. If I'm going to wear it, I'll have to bend the clip out a bit. I have other BM's with good clips; this one isn't.

wait a sec. you mean the clip arm belly does not touch the handle surface? i think that's how clips are supposed to be, or i don't get your sentence. imagine if your handle is titanium. you don't want a clip that keeps scratching against it, do you?

I don't think I have any knives with a clip that doesn't touch a handle, titanium and steel handled knives included. Plus his knives, the Triage and Rift, aren't metal handled.

my 943 came with a clip raised off the handles and with lousy retention... it wasnt a big deal. i usually adjust the tension on most knives out of box.
regarding the 755, i wouldnt fault bm for that one as it was shane siberts design ;)

my spiderco ti millie has a clip belly that's just above the ti (tested with a slip of paper.) my delica's clip won't allow the paper in but it's pressed against the blank portion of the frn (the oval logo portion.)

^Interesting, neither of my Militaries (M4, M390) are like that. Both are tight on the handle. I guess there's some difference knife to knife.

a clip will loosen overtime if slipped into jeans or cargo pants with thick pockets...

All of my knife clip bellies touch the handle except on my benchmades and i like them to be tight

I'm not understanding how this is a let down. In my view this is really a non-issue, it only takes a minute to bend them tighter or looser.

The clip on my 810 Contego was nice and tight, but I took it off and loosened it up just a tad. I like the clip just barely touching the scale, or even a micron off the scale, so I don't have to fight it to get the knife in my pocket. But I've never had any prob with a Benchmade clip.

i could write an essay on benchmade quality and letting me down..... if the ladies and gentlemen would like to see a video i could get one up tomorrow i think.

tell me if you guys want a video on all of the crap that has happened to me since buying my first benchmade in may of 2011!

true but it should also be mentioned that benchmade's clips are total garbage. the screws are not hardend for the clips and the torx teeth damage easy, the clips stick far out from the knife and hit everything, they have no retention at all, and most have a cheep paint on them, and the split arrow clip dig's into your finger while removing the knife

if the benchmade people did research and gave a shit they would realize how few people are satisfied with the standard clip. heck all they need to do is edc one for a few months

I've never had any problems with any Benchmade that I've owned, pocket clips included! They've all been top notch, very high quality knives.

Yes but for the price there should be no problems with it
Just because you perceive it and catagorize it as a problem, doesn't make it so. In fact, I would bet many consider that nit-picking (just my opinion though). Part of the problem is that some people have unreal expectations over mass produced items. Nothing is "perfect", even customs have issues at times. If the blade rolls when cutting through cardboard, or the lock slips, then that is a problem that would be unacceptable.

Quoted for posterity.

Just take the clip off, bend it towards the handle and put it back on.
