They raised their prices for the new year! That sucks!!!! Now I can't find a full size griptilian for under $89. I should have ordered one when it was $69 just before Jan 1. Oh well.

I was thinking of ordering one but now, No way! I'm not giving Benchmade my business. But I am still in the market for a good folder. Just not sure were to go as the griptillian has been on my (I should order one) list for some time. Now I must look elsewhere to scratch that itch. So, other then waiting for a year for RAT and Bark River to release their folder's, what else should I be looking at?

I'm looking for a folder to take with me in the woods for bush craft. Anywhere in the entire continental united states, even wet climates and rainforest (I'm going to trek the rain forest of Maui in a month or two)

Looking for something fun and tacticool. Lets say $210 is maximum and it should cost at least $60.

I'll mention the Kershaw Tyrade as a starting a reference point (I wish the blade shaped appealed to me more)

So what do what you guys recommend? What cool design have you been eyeing to take into the woods?

I think my next knife purchase is going to be a Spyderco Stretch. Looks to be a great woods use folder.

Well here's a few that I've always liked with those standards:

Spyderco Manix 2 in S90v -if you can find them in this steel otherwise I believe its 154cm
Spyderco D'Allara, Tenacious, Delica or Native lol, I've been on a Spydie kick lately :p

ZT's line of knives
Emerson Commander
Emerson CQC 7AW
TOPS CQT GENT-X Folder
TOPS-BUCK FOLDER
Kershaw Blur
Kershaw Cyclone
Kershaw R.A.M

+2 on the Spyderco's, great knives and good prices

Yeah but It's hard to pull the trigger and buy one. I was looking at the TI Military model that just came out....but....I wish they had used CPM D2 or S90V steel in it. The S30V they used is fine I know. Also they are coming out with a new model military soon. The Mili 2.

The JD smith looks appealing to me as well.

(quote)waterdogs Tyrade or ZT-0350 are affordable, *stout*, and sharp as hell.... (quote)

But I wonder how the blade shape/thickness of the Tyrade performs for bushcraft duty?

Benchmade prices are still good at knifeworks.com

Just add a benchmade knife to your cart and use coupon code BR549 at checkout. Price is roughly the same as before the price hike.

That sucks to hear the prices went up :( I just mentioned it in another thread and though your not happy with bm right now the mini-rukus is a perfect outdoor folder.

Others to look at; spyderco; G-10 endura, endura, para, millie, salt series, stretch.
Kershaw JYD II is a good one too.

I really like the Blur too! Just saw it when cruising Kershaws line of knives. I'll check out some of these other suggestions as well. I've seen the Emerson line before but their thumb stud looks strange to me. But supposedly they make a folding knife for NASA astronautics so that says something about them.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah as for Benchmade goes the new M4 Ritter gript looks more appealing to me know that the regular Gript has went up in price.

The Spyderco Stretch in either VG-10 or ZDP-189 is a great buy. The Gayle Bradley in Carbon Fiber and HARD CPM M4 is just over $130 and z great hard use knife in a great steel that really cuts well. The fit and finish is the best I've had on a factory knife as well, the Bradley is just awesome.

I was looking at the Bradley as well. It's an awesome looking knife in CF and M4. Good to know the fit and finish is good as it's made in Taiwan.

+1 on the Gayle (had no idea they were that low in price!) thanks for posting that.

Other than ZT, Emerson will be the "toughest" of the line I posted. They are extremely heavy duty knives and will outperform you -so to speak.

Just read some reviews on the Kershaw Tyrade on kniferating.com. No reviews from people actually using it in the outdoors. But good reviews. What was really strange was one guy saying he bought it for $75:eek: What? I mean I'd be all for this knife if the price was less. I found it for $210. So for that price it better be an awesome knife. Anyone find it less?

Why did they raise the prices? I will not be buying a benchmade griptilian anythime soon because of the prices around the web. $85 for a grip? What happened to $60?

My advice to you is buy a spyderco endura. They can be forund for way cheaper than the grip. They are made with japanes vg-10 which is a great steel, holds an edge as long as s30v and sharpens almost as quick as s30v. I've heard it's compairable with 154cm but I have never used 154cm.

The 1st knife that comes to mind is a Spyderco Salt series (Probably a Pacific Salt), but if you want something more "tacticool", the Stretch in FRN is a very good choice. They now have them in VG-10 or ZDP-189.

I don't think BM raised their msrp prices, so much as they no longer sell to wholesalers & Internet stores, so you'll probably only find what's still left of stock &/or a brick & mortar store & that might be why the prices are up, too.

It'll be interesting to see what happens for BM. Maybe it would've been a good move a couple yrs ago, but I would think with the recession & knife companies having their knives made in less expensive countries, might prove to be difficult for BM, but I guess we'll see.

Knifecenter has them for 99 bucks BUT I've never ordered from them before so maybe do a bit of research on them.

Get a Spyderco Bradley. Built like a tank and finished to the nines.

Cannot recommend this one enough.

You should still be able to find good deals on Benchmade's on the Internet. I would recommend a fixed blade for bushcraft but if you're definitely set on a folder, I would recommend a Benchmade HK14205, Benchmade 610, Zero Tolerance 0200, or Zero Tolerance 0300. For fixed blades, I would recommend a Fehrman Peace Maker, a Fallkniven F1, Bark River Bravo-1, Bark River Game Keeper, Kabar-Becker BK2 Campanion, RAT RC-4, or RAT RC-5.
