Benchmade love?

Something about Benchmade "to me" just screams PLAIN AND BORING. If you've seen one or two Benchmades, you've seen them all.

People also say that about Spydercos, Kershaws, and Emersons.
Those people are also what I like to call wrong.;)

I checked a few of mine, couldn't find anything that looked boring, felt cheap or like a toy

Sure. That's why I said "to me". ;)

Fair enough.:)
And there are alot that do have similar lines.
I always liked the ones which stand out more, but they tend to get discontinued along the way.
Too bad on that. I know that some people like the hunt, but I like to be able to just go buy the ones I like, which is hard when the cool ones go away (Resistor, Gravitator, Dejavoo, Skirmish, etc.)

I always get a chuckle out of 'bashers' of any knife lineup. We all have our preferences, but to suggest that there is anything 'mousey' about a Benchmade makes me wonder if the commentator lives on the same planet as I do.

Back when the 710-1 first came out, I was so impressed that I bought two. Thick steel liners, axis lock holding back an M390 steel blade, what's not to like. Still to this day, if I make an impulse grab for a 'go to' knife, as often as not, my hand will fall on a Ritter Grip, a 710 or a Rift. If you put a Benchmade through it's paces, I can pretty much assure a person that it will not fail to impress.

OK! But regarding the O.P. do you know of a heavy use Spydie, or do you favor otherbrand besides benchmade soley on looks. Which is cool, to each is own. I personally think most Spydies look very much the same.

This regards Silenthunter

Heavy duty, has to be the Manix2 XL. I wouldn't try to break the lock, but I really like mine. The Starmate has proven to be a reliable knife.

What do you consider heavy duty?

Because many Benchmade models, 941, mini grip, etc, feel rather toyish and cheap in comparison to the comparable Spyderco models

I don't own any Benchmade that feel that way, however I never bought a Grip. But thats how Spydies feel to me, every FRN handle they make feels just as crappy as zytel SOG uses. Especially the Endura,Delica and Salt models. But I know the differences is what makes this interest great.

i'm a benchmade lover !!!
i try many brands but every time i sold the knives ...
except customs, my collection is 95% benchmades
give a try to a 710, a 940, a grip .......... and you will discover why

I condsider BM Contego ( it's happen to be in my pocket today as you'll read I keep referencing it, Microtech Socom Elite, Hinderer XM's, any Benchmade Black class, Spyderco Manix XL , Dark Ops Stratofighter, to name a few, any knife with M4, 3V steel built with beefy liners and great lock up. That feeling you get when certain knives just won't do.

I love em both for different reasons. I feel like my Benchmades are more a work of art. I have a 581 Barrage made with M390, which I love. But it is a little big for EDC. I also have a 741 Mini-Onslaught. I really like the look of both these knifes. I can tell you, my min-Onslaught is never going to see hard work. Its to nice, it will be for gutting deer and cleaning trout. If I want a worker I grab my PM2 although I dont think it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye (the G10 is very basic and not flashy). I alway grab my spydies for tough work, as a collector you need some tough workers and some good lookers in your collection. Dont get me wrong, I am a funtional collector, all my knives get use. but purely on funtion, I choose the Spydie. I love the looks and designs of the BMs. I really hate the lame G10 on my PM2. I may have some custom scales made for it. I just got a Native 5 and I think its now my choice EDC. I absolutely love it.

The next knife on my list is a Benchmade Bone Collector in D2. It will be my first D2 knife. Then probably the Gail Bradley. I seem to buy one BM then one Spydie Then on BM and alternate my purchases between the two.

Should be getting the BM Forum knife in the next couple weeks (950 Rift with CF Scales, CPM-M4 Clearkote blade)

I like benchmade and would probably have more if they did as many sprints as Spyderco, but I have at least twice as many Spydercos overall, I think they're about equal quality, although Benchmade has more thicker/stouter designs like the Adamas or Contego that give up slicing ability for strength, where as Spydercos are more about cutting ability over strength/prying ability (which makes more sense to me).

thats Crazy to hear you say that, I kind of feel that way about Spyderco, I love Spyderco but all their knives look very similar. I think BM has much more diversity in their designs.

Well, there's more Benchmade love now than before yesterday.
Yesterday I gave a friend who visited a Benchmade Mini Ambush to replace his cheap Boker assisted opener that fell apart.
He liked it right away better than he had the Boker when it was new.
Good blade shape, decent steel, regular handle shape.

Spread the love, people!:)

Case in point. They all look really similar. Almost the same patterns, same color schemes..etc. I've owned a Benchmade grip before. It was a good knife. Just seemed plain, and like one poster said, felt kinda toyish. Again..just my opinion.

hit the bali forum, plenty of bm love there. i got more than a few benchmade folders, balis, fixed blades. other than my balis my favorite bm i own is my bm rant clip point in d2! now that was(discontinued) one great knife, and is one of my heaviest users. they couldn't leave well enough alone though...first they changed the steel back to 440c, and now it's discontinued. guess it just didn't sell? too bad, as this is one of my favorites.

allot of the new designs though, don't do it for me. either i lost my way or benchmade has in the design department? it's probably me though.

I agree that spyderco knives are flat. I like the 3 dimensional scales on benchmade knives, they fit my hands better.

but that doesn't mean I don't like spyderco knives.
