Benchmade love?

I like the 940, and the old models like the Ares 730 and the 804 AFCK. I think all the major companies have a knife that we like and maybe some that we dont like. THANKS! Kevin :D

Go pick up a full size aluminum Presidio an let me know if it's not a well made piece. BM is quality all the way.

I own only 2 Benchmades. One is a 585 and the other is the 580. I love the 585...it feels great in my medium sized hand. The blade size, shape and quality is all I want in an EDC. I especially love assist knives. I don't like the Valox scales. The shape, contour and design is fine but the material feels and sounds like cheap plastic. I'm in the process in ordering scales from cuscadi and I'm also going to try to make a pair. I'm not a fan of the the 580. It is just too big a knife for EDC...Funny I say that as I also carry a ZT350 and while it is a brute of a knife I love carrying it. I especially like the G10 scales...simple and functional.

I also own a Kershaw Volt II. It is a great knife, especially for the price.
I have no single favorite brand or model. I have favorite models...some I own, others I lust over...
I don't think there really are any terrible knife makers. We just have our favorites for a variety of reasons.

Or any Osbourne, MPR, Barrage 581, Benchmade makes high quality knives to say they feel like toys is just hate. Spyderco has full blow out lines like Delica, Endura, Salt, Ladybug, Manbug and etc. that could not feel any cheaper. Thats the points of these knives, is to be very light weight using lightweight plastics. and no liners. Delica and Endura are some of Spydies best sellers because of lightweight and price, just like the BM Griptillian.

I love BM, most of my knives are BM. maybe only because I get great discounts from a local store.

I've been a BM user for about 15 years. I have a couple that have been through hell, and never failed me.
I've had a couple Spydercos in the past, and they were very well made knives, but I just don't care for the blade shape on most of them.
I have to admit though, I've been eyeing a Native 5 for a couple weeks. I like the blade shape and everything else about the knife.
I've never had a axis lock failure, but I do still like a nicely made lock back design and this one has it.
The Gayle Bradley knife is also a beauty...

There are good kives from all makers, but they are all different. There are only so many ways to design a knife, so sometimes it seems like things don't change much.

Why is every post you've made in this thread ripping on spyderco? The edura/delica do have full nested steel liners, something the benchmade griptillian line cannot say. Most benchmade knives run in the $150ish price range. Compare those knives with spydercos in the same price range and I think you'll find identical build quality with the advantage in materials and performance going to spyderco. My guess is you've never held a sprint run para2 or a Ti military. How about the sage series? Or a caly 3.5? I would put ANY of those knives up against anything benchmade makes. Benchmade makes some excellent knives, but they aren't any better than their equivalent spydercos. The difference is that spyderco also makes budget minded knives which benchmade does not.

Ok first off, you dont know me or the collection I have. I'm not ripping spyderco, I love the spydies I have, read my O.P.
I did compare the same price range and found Benchmade wins everytime, Benchmde has budget minded line ups, HK ring a bell. The HK nitrous blitz was vastly superior to what Spyderco would do in the $70-90 range. 154cm, titanium assited liners, g10 scales, coated blade, made in the usa.
My O.P. was to get opinions, and someone tell me a hard use spydie to match a Benchmade black class. But like alot of post, people dont responsed to O.P. they response to other comments.

I originally being from the Pacific Northwest LOVE Benchmade, Lone Wolf (Prior to Benchmade's purchase) and CRK!! They are all Pacific Northwest brands... Those three brands are all that I own as of now, not because I think that they are the best and nothing compares but becuase they are great knives and honestly I am scarred to purchase other brands as that opens the door for more uncontrolable spending. I do think that Benchmade is better than Spyderco though, Benchmade is only made in America and for me that is huge...plus they have alot higher end knives where Spyderco does not. If you are looking around the $200 range, then I think that they are tit for tat...

I was a Spyderco guy until I got a Benchmade. The axis lock is great. I EDC'd a Skirmish for a long time and it is still one of favorite knives. Now I'm EDC the BM62, it's an incredible design and a must have. Spyderco, Kershaw and ColdSteel make some good knives and people buy them because they are adequate and affordable, but Benchmades have a something extra.

My heavy use blade by Spyderco is the Manix 2 in CPM-M4. It's got the ball lock which is similar to the Axis & is very strong & maybe better in the long term because the Manix has a normal coil spring that takes equal force on the entire spring compared to the Axis lock that has a C shaped spring which only bends at the center & has been known to break after several hundred openings.

I agree about the Manix 2 , plus it's well priced.

I never had a Manix 2 in my hand, I own a Manix XL, which would survive heavy use except it has a thinner blade than most heavy use/ tactical knives. Other than that I think the Manix XL is great buy for the money. And I know can be used in any hard use situation in thickness is not an issue. However I feel the overall size does not fit well in the pocket, and the handles are very well ergo but a tad slim. But overall I love the Manix XL, would be great to dig if need be as well bearing a leaf shaped blade.

Should be getting the BM Forum knife in the next couple weeks (950 Rift with CF Scales, CPM-M4 Clearkote blade)

I like benchmade and would probably have more if they did as many sprints as Spyderco, but I have at least twice as many Spydercos overall, I think they're about equal quality, although Benchmade has more thicker/stouter designs like the Adamas or Contego that give up slicing ability for strength, where as Spydercos are more about cutting ability over strength/prying ability (which makes more sense to me).

Benchmade has the advantage of designing the best folding knife ever made. The AFCK of course!
