Benchmade Mini or full size Griptilian?

I own a mini and really like it a lot. But with that being said, I am planning to buy the full-size. Now, a lot of that is influenced by my what my own personal preference has become, but I do wish the mini was just a little bigger at times when I carry it. And knowing that, it keeps me from carrying it as much as I'd like to. I love everything else about it, so I know the full-size will be awesome.

For my use, it's 3" blades or under. I can do everything with a mini that I can do with the bigger one, but not vice versa. It's strictly based on need for me, nothing personal about it.

I usually feel the opposite. I can do anything with the full sized Griptilian tha I can do with the mini, but not vice versa. For outdoor work, the full sized knife works much better for me.
For a small blade, the mini grip has very good ergonomics.

Would take the mini. I hated the balance of the full size due to steel liners only going about half way.
Like many have mentioned. Go with the Doug Ritter version, it has the best cutting geometry.

I really, really wish Benchmade offered an in between size with 3.25" blade length. :(

I originally wanted a mini Grip but bought a used full size for $20 bucks and have been very happy with the larger size. You should really get both but, if you are only buying one, make it full size.

Also, before you spend your cash on a Griptilian consider Benchmade's HK 14715 and 14716. Many consider them better than the Grip and they are less money if my memory is correct.

Where the heck did you find one for $20?! I need to go shopping with you lol

In the Grip line, I prefer the mini. I love the way the handle shape compensates for the shorter length and I prefer the full liners in the noryl gtx models. There are other model Benchmades I prefer to the Griptilian in the full size spectrum, such as the Stryker, 710, and 940. If budget in the larger size is constrained, I would pick the G10 D2 Benchmade H&K 14715, which costs about the same as a large Griptilian.

Best of luck in your decision

Actually it was nineteen and change before tax. You did notice it was used, right? A 551 with about 1/8" missing from the blade tip. Just dressed the blade with a file and I was set. About a year later, I won my second 551 here on BF so I sold the first to a doctor at work for forty bucks.

One of our local retailers has a used gear sale from time to time. When a customer returns a used serviceable product it may end up in the retailer's used gear stash and offered for sale. No warranty is offered and the products are nonreturnable. Everything is "as is". You never know what they have to offer. The second sale I went to had zero knives available and I was told they were no longer allowed to sell used knives. My time was not a total loss though, I did get $100 JetBoil backpacking stove for fourteen dollars.:D

The answer is easy...for me. Although they are both good folders...

One has a closed grip-length of 3.9". The full-size Grip is 4.7".
I cannot hold onto a knife that has less than a 4" grip-length.
YMMV.

For me its a no-brainer (even though I have both) - it's the full sized version.

I like the thinner stock of the mini but whilst I don't have the largest hands, I find the mini just a bit too small for real use. Admittedly for general EDC use, the knife isn't actually in my hand for long.

I also recommend the new G10 variants.

Enjoy!

i'll chime in fully on the mini side - i'm a HUGE fan of the mini grip, it just feels amazing to me, is ultra smooth, and has a nice weight in hand. I have medium hands though, so I understand how guys with big hands like bigger handle knives. After owning a mini I bought a full grip thinking i'd love it too and was really surprised by how TERRIBLE it felt to me...like another guy said the half liner makes the handle feel strangely light, and changes the sound the knife makes when you flick it closed with the axis (something i've become terribly addicted to with my mini and mini-barrage de-assisted) - its a hollow plasticky thunk instead of the beautiful click of the mini-grip. If you're looking for a bigger blade i'd go endura - i've never carried a bigger blade until I got one, but its way slimmer than the grip and bigger blade - not nearly as fun to play with as the axis lock but disappears in the pocket.

I did also just get a mini-grip with a ritter blade like other guys here are saying, and i'm actually thinking of selling knives off I love it so much.

Either one will work and you will be happy...But if your looking to be in love, your going to need aftermarket scales.
