Hi,

I have had my fingers on a Benchmade Nimravus for quite a while, but I can see that they have changed the handles from G10 to Aluminium, and I can not figure out if this is good or bad?

This will be my first "over-the-budget-knife" so it must be a good buy!

I have an older model with the M2 blade and G10 handles that's real nice. I just visited Benchmades website and the say "Machined Aluminum or Optional G10 Handles" so If indeed G10 is an option then I would opt for that.

I also have an older Nimravus in M2 steel and G10 and it really is a great knife. Very light and enough blade to do most any job. I would also opt for the G10 scales.

I have a Nimravus with sand colored G-10 and 154CM steel. I really like the feel of the aluminum that I've handled in the knife shop, but my "sand" model only comes with G10. I like them both.

If you order from an internet shop, chances are you'll only find the aluminum scales. Email them and ask if they'll get the G10 for you if you want it.

EDIT: After re-reading your post--- the Nimravus is a super-nice fixed blade knife. There is no issue with quality here. When I bought my sand model, you can only get it with a partially serrated blade... now THAT I wish they would change. The serrations are nice and sharp (and easy to sharpen with the Sharpmaker), but I'd prefer a plain edge. Both the G-10 and Aluminum scales are superb quality..... your money will be well spent, in my opinion.

Another expensive piece of garbage!

Care to elaborate? Vague posts like this add nothing to these forums at all.

Dr Dew- The aluminum handled Nims are a little heavier, but I think they offer a more secure grip. The newer Nims also come with the soft MOLLE sheaths, which I think are much better than the old Kydex sheaths. I would go with the newer ones, but if you have to have the g10, you can still find them on the net.

I have Nimravus M2 G10. Pretty good knife! I heart several stories about it saving live and being used a lot on the field.

And, honestly, I think it is pretty affordable. In general, majority of knives of this level and quality is more expensive.

I am not happy with BM and not buying anything from them because of their policy against NG, but in terms of price they are not most expensive - there are several manufacturers with higher price tags and in terms of quality they are also good. So it is unfair to make such a comment and looking around other posts - I do not see any reasonable base for this.

Thanks, Vassili.

No, he doesn't. He just posts the same things over and over again because he can't afford anything nicer than mall quality knives. I'm sure he'll be banned soon enough.

I missed this what is their policy against NG?

I have not handled an aluminum handled one but how is the the grip when cold or wet?
I agree the old Kydex sheaths are not that great.

Something like they are not fit BM expectation of dealear or something - search it was discussed here some time ago.

Thanks, Vassili.

If by "NG" you mean New Graham, then consider this before blaiming Benchmade for not dealing with them.

Benchmade is in the business of selling knives. The more they sell, the more they manufacture. The more they sell and manufacture, the more money they make. Is there any more that NEEDS to be said???? You extrapolate the rest....

If BM had a problem with New Graham, you're probably not going to hear all the details in a forum like this. If they disallowed New Graham from selling their knives, there would definitely be a good reason. Just because I might read in a forum thread, or a magazine article, or a narrative on the New Graham website, or whatever, doesn;t mean I'm getting the truth or even the whole story.

As I understand NGK will not honor Benchmades Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy.Hence BM either will not sell directly to NGK or is slow to fulfill their orders.GP knives, for one, uses a system where you have to place the knife in shopping cart to see the price if it's below the BM MAP.I've seen other dealers use this practice.Benchmade seems okay with this as they have not leveled similar sanctions on anyone besides NGK.

Well, after reading all comments, one thing I can read out - from many things...is that the BM Nimravus is a good knife, regardless of what material the handle is made of. I belive I got some confused when holding the BM Nimravus with G10 handles and then, finally, upon ordering finds out that they have changed the material and G10 is optional. I like the feeling of this knife, smooth, and not so thick in the blade. GOT TO HAVE is the feeling when holding it, unfortunately, that felling is very present when it comes to knives...

I really like my m2 Nimravus w/G10, but hate the case. It's too bulky and the lock is worthless.

Mr. Wilson

Ahhh, but the long lamented first gen kydex sheath that came with my M2, now, that's a different thing.

It's a real asset to carry, slips into the slot behind the mag pouches on the LBV, won't pull out on extraction, has lots of options for carry, gee, it makes the knife a joy.

Should bring a nice little premium at my estate sale, cause I won't let it go any sooner. Or the blade.

Go with G10 even if its extra - It's warmer to the touch, grippier, can be modified, and will not turn a nice dull aluminum color under hard use - like a M16 in basic.
