Benchmade Rukus Discontinued. Now what?

These things are addictive! I was in another knife emporium and they, too, had 615BK's - and #42 Balisong's - both bye-bye elsewhere. Of course, very close to MSRP there. Here is my Ruki collection:

Still... I look for them everywhere -and think, "I need a backup..."!

I boarded the Rukus train a little too late and was only able to snatch up a 615SBK.
The size of the mini is more than enough for me, but I am always worried about wearing the blade coating so it sits at home while the Rift gets to ride in my pocket.

It's a shame really...such a tough knife, and I am afraid to use it. The serrations aren't that favorable either IMO. They make the slicing area too small for me.

Anyone want to trade their satin 615 for a NIB 615sbk? :)

Don't get me wrong, I adore the knife design, but this version is not exactly my cup of tea.

They have much the same dimensions but these knives are incomparable. The Rukus is a tank, where the Onslaught is a slicer. Its blade is thin and tapers out to almost razor blade thickness. It's beautiful and effective, but nothing like the Rukus in terms of strenght and toughness.

I agree - the Onslaught is a slicer. A very good one.

What I was getting at, is it appears to be the largest Blue Class knife that Benchmade makes right now. If you want a big Benchmade, this is it.

Hey Stains

If you didn't buy those Benchmarks would you mind shooting me an email? I would like to give them a call. Thanks!

I really wish I would have bought those when I had the chance...I have to settle for these instead...

some internet shops still got some of these left if you look around - plain satin seems to be the hardest to find as expected while black combo versions are the most abundant.

I bought my Rukus just based on looks, but I don't really miss it after selling it as I always thought it was too noticeable in the pocket(thick, heavy) and it probably has the worst pocket clip I've come across.

I lent mine to a friend who sent it to BM for a spa trip. Funny thing is, Benchmade didn't sharpen it and lost the pivot screw, though the standoff is still there.

I recently picked up a mini rukus but the handle was a little thick and uncomfortable for me so its up on ebay and I have a rift on the way to try instead. :)

I know its a little late, but there is a set on ebay for $85.00. I just saw them. although I think they were for the Mini.
Anyone have any idea who may still have the winewood scales for the Rukus in stock? Trying to get a pair.

Best knife ever, been EDCing mine for 4+ years. They sell for like $500-600 now on eBay. I think they were discontinued for legal reasons ... the >4" blade is lethal.

No they weren't discontinued for legal reasons. If that was the case why are folders with over 4" blades coming out all the time?

Had a cursory glance through the Benchmade and Spyderco ranges, and the over 4" folders have all gone. I may be wrong ...

Those are companies sensitive to legal issues.

You are wrong. Misuse of a knife does not fall on the company, (not in the USA) it's up to the consumer to know and obey the law. In fact with a deadly weapons permit, I can carry ANY knife legally. Plus, blade length varies State to State here. In Texas you can carry a knife with no permit, up to 5.5". There's no legal issues about selling folders with over 4" blades here at all. Because, they are legal to own even if the local law prohibits carry. If that were the case Cold Steel would have been sued long ago. The reason knife companies discontinue knives, is because it's no longer profitable to continue carrying them. Sales slow down and they cut models, to devote their capacities to new models. Then sales pick up and they'll carry that model until the same thing occurs.

I would like to add that Spyderco has more large (4-inch and larger) knives now than they have had before.

And there are some more coming out over the next few years too.

BM recently released a Limited, of 300, full G-10 scaled, Blk/Grn, coated S30V..615-1401..? I think (would have loved M4 or D2 on this)

Only one left myself..great knife.
