i was wondering why everyone likes benchmade or it seems like everyone does.
i find that they only have a few desighns i like and the quality doesnt impress me for the money

I love Benchmade. Their design appeal to me and there are several folders that are outstanding. My favourites are Nitrous Stryker, 710 and 707 Sequel. Never had any major problems with their QC. The only drawback is that they are pretty pricey... but quality costs I´ll guess.

I only own one benchmade. I like it, its been used and abused never had a problem with it. What are some of the quality issues your talking about? And could you give an example of some knives that do impress you for the money?

Which knives do you have experience with? I have close to 30 of them and never noticed a problem with quality. Quite a bit better than some of the other brands out there.

The quality on mine is just fine, a full-size Griptilian.
The materials/cost ratio seems off-kilter to me though. Bought mine for $65 a couple of years ago, which is OK, but new prices are significantly higher. Too much $$ for plastic handles, IMO.

Not everyone likes Benchmade; in fact a lot of people don't. I can see where they get their argument that Benchmade doesn't offer as much for the money, but there are at least a couple models I think are worth it. Plenty of people do like Benchmade, and it makes sense given the axis lock, good steels, and quality.

I wander what is this "quality for the money" is about. It looks like meaningless statement to me. How much quality are you ready to buy and how much are you willing to pay for it. Give me the numbers please...

I agree that they would be a bit overpriced if you're looking at places that sell at Benchmade's MAAP of 15% below MSRP. But if you buy from one of the places that gets around the policy and sells below MAAP -- which is what I do -- IMHO their value for the money is just as good as the other major brands.

Obviously, everyone's tastes will be different, but I like a lot of their designs. As for quality, they occasionally have a lemon slip through just like every other company, but in general the quality of the couple dozen Benchmades that I own or have owned has been excellent.

I don't understand why people start threads like this. I'm not a Benchmade owner but I'm convinced they make quality knives that appeal to a wide range of customers.

I like benchmade because of their axis locks and that they deploy so smooth using the thumb stud. I want to pick up a few more.

The 5 reasons I love Benchmade:
1. Great QC (In my experience)
2. Great Customer Service
3. Materials
4. Designs
5. Cera-Kote Gen II (Best coating I've ever used, came on my 2011 551SBKSN)

I will never buy from anything but benchmade. Thy rock.

Then you are missing out on a lot of great knives.

Never is a word you might want to consider not using very much (but not never, of course.) :)

Does Benchmade make steak knives?

You'd have to point out some solid evidence to convince me Benchmade sucks. Without MAAP their prices are right in line with Kershaw/ZT and Spyderco and they bring a great deal of innovation to the industry. They also stand firmly behind their product, which earns a lot of points from me. I'm actually with you on not liking very many of the current designs, but that comes down to a personal taste issue. If their reputation bothers you that much get a good price on one and put it to the test. If you hate it you can always jump over to the trade forum and I'm sure someone will take it off your hands and give you something you might like more. Otherwise, stick with "I don't like Benchmade," instead of "Benchmade sucks."

This is starting to smell like a troll post. To say one of the biggest, well known, and quality knife companies "sucks" and then not post a follow up reply to answer questions just seems like it was a pointless and inflammatory post.

Yes, BM sucks...really sucks. BM sucks so much that I ordered two more: 710 and 940, both PE satin.

Concerning cost, the MSRP for BenchMade is high. However, the online price is discounted up to 40%, more if you are lucky. For Knife Works I found about 37% off MSRP.

BM has a life time warranty, this raises the cost, as well as the better blade steels. If BM used overseas production the price would be less, but, the warranty would not be as generous.

The Red Class products (discontinued) were a good value. The lower priced Blue Class items are well worth the cost. The Gold Class is expensive and probably over priced... but tempting.

i love benchmade, why would you start a thread to talk bad about a company. maybe you just cant appreciate quality

+1:thumbup:

I handled two, a Griptilian, and one like the Grip, but much smaller (unsure of the name), and I held both for about... 15 seconds, then I realized that for the price, the handles felt like I was handling a $20 knife. The blades were also not sharp, which is one thing I look for in a company (sharpness out of box). I was less than impressed for a company with a reputation like Benchmade. Don't get me wrong, the knives felt sturdy and well-built, but for the price point I want more substantial feeling handles.
