Benchmade using spyderhole?

Apparently the two companies have reached an agreement which speaks loudly that BM does not feel that the trademark is invalid at all. So we can all stop this now I guess. I know that will disappoint some of you hard core guys but something new to argue about will come up again I'm sure. :D

So BM made a statement about confidential agreement. I do not trust them, still smells fishy. Some dealers expect this knife in six weeks. It takes time to design, made samples, debug them, start production, make production, bring product to US, ship to distributors, than to dealers. I cannot imagine doing all above in six weeks. Decent people are asking permission first, than use it in design and recognize original idea in the ad.
I will wait to hear from Spyderco.

You might want to put your Spydercos down and leave the basement. :)

I was looking at the Benchmade lineup, and I was wondering whatever happened to using a thumbdisk to open folders? To me that is still the most intuitive, most pleasant, and most instinctive way to go.

I would guess that it became cost prohibitive but who knows. It would seem that the added cost of the taps to mount the discs would add up fast. I would suspect they would only last so long and add to the cost to manufacture them and it may also be more costly to have discs made up compared to thumb studs. There is sure more steel involved in the discs and when talking about 1000s of knives I'm sure the costs add up fast with anything regarding steel inventory and tap and die costs.

I hope that the agreement was an amicable one.

"So stay tuned, the Vex is likely just the beginning of some very cool designs you will soon be seeing from Benchmade..."

Either way, it would seem that the Spyderco fanatics may to have to get used to the idea of round hole openers on Benchmades.

I can't speak for others, but for me it was never a matter of the Spyderhole being on a BM. It was a matter of if it was done with respect to IP. Most of the arguments I've read on these forums seemed to hold the same view. When Boker came out with the Spyderhole there was no such uproar because Boker credited Spyderco on thier website. It has more to do with integrity, and intelectual honesty, than it has to do with brand loyalty.
