So which one guys. I know I have put up other threads and it's down to these two blades. Seems like everyone and their Gma has a pn2 and very few have a volli. To me it says a lot but can also say nothing I need a great strong lightweight knife for mechanic carpentry everyday work. I need u guys. What should I get.

Ps only hold me back from the pm2 is this Russian video I watched http://youtu.be/5ED58nK6Gpc

And I know folders sent meant for this. But he does this same test on a lot of knives and compared to the zt vids. The pm2 blade snaps like a potato chip. Help guys thank you

Unless you were tempted to take a Hammer to your cellphone, as seen on youtube, then I would disregard everything in that video.

You might want to stop watching those kinds of videos. Buy the knife you like best and use it.

The majority of people here will weigh in that the PM2 is the way to go. It's a solid knife. I don't care for the compression lock and I'm more of a Benchmade guy.

I actually handled a Volli this week and it is an excellent slicer. Like the PM2 it is designed as a slicer more than a hard use folder. If you're looking for a "hard use" knife I would probably look at something with thicker blade stock.

Volli without a doubt. I own both. Volli has nicer g10, and is thinner at the cutting edge. Also, i would say the volli is a higher quality knife. The benchmade sharpening service is free too.

Paramilitary 2. Just got mine and it's an amazing knife.

Plus I'm not a fan of assisted openers

I am actually carrying both as we speak. Both are great knives and u can't go wrong with either it just depends what u like and prefer. Both the axis lock and the compression lock are rock solid but I'd actually say I think compression is more reliable since I had both my omega springs break on axis lock and the knife was only 3 months old. Also I did De - assist my Volli and I like it much better that way.

You'll have folks who tell you the PM2 is a fantastic knife and you should get one.

They are both correct. My advice would be to handle them both, and you'll know. If you don't have a store that has both, then buy both on-line. You'll be able to sell the one you don't want with absolutely zero problem.

But I suspect if you have both, you're going to have an equally difficult time deciding which one you "don't want". :D

Never had an issue with omega's (knock on wood) but I know BM would take care of me. I don't personally care for the placement of the compression lock.

How hard is it to de-assist the Vol? I handled one this weekend and really liked it but I don't care for assisted knives.

Quite easy. I deassisted my 581 in about a half an hour. Since the Volli is built on a Mini Barrage frame, it would be about the same. There are quite a few YouTube vids on the subject.

Mechanic carpentry everyday work? Get a Buck 110.

I would actually suggest something else for this kind of work as well, probably a small FB like a Bradford Guardian 3 or one of L T Wright's smaller offerings. But between the two you've listed, I think it'll come down to personal preference. I own and carry both of them. The biggest difference I've noticed is in the feel of each knife. Neither one has ever failed in any way, both are pretty easy to keep sharp. The Volli has a little smaller pocket presence than the PM 2 but the PM 2 s a bit easer for me to open and close one-handed. The AO o the Volli means have to think a bit more about getting it closed securely and I also have to be a bit more conscious of where I am when I open it even thought it's a perfectly legal knife in GA. The PM 2 is a little more secure in my hand because of the handle shape and texture.

Or what if I threw in a 707 sequel to the mix. I also could pick one of these bad boys up for 100 right now. How would u guys stack em up?

Okay lets get practical. The knife you need is the Gayle Bradley. There ya go. Best advice hands down.

skip the thin bladed PM2 and medium use(at best)Volli and buy a ZT 0350. The blade wont snap, the AO is actually excellent and rigidity wise devours both the PM2 and Volli which is prbly why I have 3 0350's. Toughest practical hard user Ive ever had next to the ZT 0550. As good as the PM2 is ergonomically the blade IS thin especially at the tip. The Volli to me just doesnt have enough handle or ergonomics as good as the PM2 or ZT's. But also as suggested you could buy a couple Buck 110's for cheap and rotate them. I have half a dozen stock 110's and 6 custom shops. The 110 truly is tough as a framing hammer and I have yet to buy even a cheap wally world 110 that was not shaving sharp

If you wear work gloves doing your job go with the PM2.

I find it is very easy to get out of my pocket, open, use, and close without needing to remove my gloves. Second only to my Military.

I love Spyderco and Benchmade and own a box full of them. I would not get the Volli for any tough work. I do not even like the looks of it, personally. If you want an ~3.5" blade on a really tough knife I would look at the Cold Steel American Lawman or Code 4. I have a Mini Recon 1 and it is everything a Buck 112 is, and a whole lot more. I think it is nearly indestructible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiHLRkCKoSw
