Benchmade Warranty.

A Benchmade 940 was the first high quality pocket folder I purchased after getting back into knives. Upon joining this forum I learned that most of us expect the blade to be centered. Mine was not. It was near but not touching the frame. The 940 is a very thin knife with not much room for blade centering variance. I sent it to Benchmade along with a short letter indicating my concerns and stating that I had lost the receipt. I liked this model so much that I bought another as a spare. Ten days latter my knife reappeared in the gray Benchmade warrantee service box. It had new screws, new clip and was perfectly centered. It had a newly applied 60 degree edge bevel in place of the 30 degree one I had put on it using a Sharpmaker. (Sh*%). It also had none of the scratches I remember causing in daily use. It also was missing the battery acid stain on the right scale. I'm slow. This is a new knife. No "where's your receipt" no "sorry it's within factory specifications" no "we can't warrantee it because you took it apart" no nothing. I've bought eleven more Benchmades since. OldDude1

The only problem I've ever had was just trying to get in touch with their service department since they're apparently busy all the time. Pro tip--call early and you'll get through. I had to call them about a Houdini tool I had ordered for my mother-in-law that came without a battery in it. Once I got through to them they didn't just send me a single set of batteries--they sent a whole fist full!

I think most of the larger knife mfgrs have gone the same quality of service to back up their products. I've had great results w/ Gerber and CRKT. Both are obviously in the same knife class as Benchmade, but it sounds like they all are counting on return customers w/ excellent service after the sale, even when they don't have to contractually. I'd buy from any of these kind of companies again and again, merely because they stand behind what they sell!
Keep 'em coming back! Very good business model...

I'll probably be sending them my 610 some time later. One of the torx screws rattled out, while the edge dented itself against one of the spacers when the pivot was loose out of the box.

Same class as Benchmade? They may have good customer service but those two companies don't come close as far as quality of knives goes. They aren't in the same league.

I own 2 benchmades, use them both, quite a bit, and have no need for warranty service, because they have not malfunctioned or shown any issues to warranty. I bought a couple of benchmade t shirts, and wear them proud. I am glad I bought last years design though, this years look a little bit undesirable.

I've always heard great things about BM's customer service, and I don't doubt they are among the best. I don't think that's the main issue when people say they don't like something about the company.

Did you mean to say they obviously are in the same class or are not?

Fixed it for ya. ;)

I have used them once with excellent results like the OP. Benchmade is a solid company:thumbup:

They will replace blades for $35 but you have to send it in. Not too bad IMO.

Do you guys think they'd replace a blade with the tip broken off?

I think they charge a nominal fee to replace a blade. I'd say it would be worth it though, unless it's a lower cost knife.

I've had good experience with them. I did have some bad trouble a while back but they seem to have done a major overhaul recently in both quality control on initial sales and in warranty services (not just happy to help, but actually helping). I hope things stay this good, I am glad to pay a slight premium for good quality and service (and to an AMERICAN COMPANY!!)

Treksid, they charge, but not much. A friend sent a spike in with a broken tip, years after it was out of production, they still had a new blade and only charged $20.

Well, let me tell you my experience with Benchmade Customer Care:

1. Buy a Benchmade 51 Morpho from a retail store (in Europe, retail price is around 400 USD).
2. While cleaning and oiling the knife, one of the T6 screws got broken inside the pin. No offense but the screws are not very resistant.
3. Write mail to Benchmade. No answer.
4. Call Benchmade International two days after. They answered promptly and offered to send me for free the parts I needed (screw and pin). Impressive customer care, I said. Really impressive.
5. A month later, I receive a package with 1 (one) screw and no pin (the broken screw was still stuck inside the original pin). The screw they sent me is the wrong size (T4)!!
6. Last Benchmade for me.... cant even get the size of their screws right? You offer to ship for free to Europe but do not really read the description of the needed parts? Or at least check before sending it?
7. To repair my 51 Morpho, I will order a set of screws from Flytanium. Other suggestions appreciated.

I have not used BM warranty service, but all I read about it are stories like OP's. One of the main reasons I am turning my knife interest more to Benchmade.

On a side note, I have used four times ZT warranty, all on detent rocks (the blade wiggled in closed position). Two of them were on the same knife. The warranty quality of my last ZT left much more to be desired. The knife was shipped back to me literally as it left my door. I plan to give them another try to fix the issue.
