Bertram Hen and Rooster knives.

Carls got it about right. The older H&R knives are pretty much the best you will find. The fit and finish is second to none. Even the inside bits are polished.

Thank you Mr. Russell, even though you have popped my bubble  Half the joy I get from knife collecting is learning about the history of the knives I find, and now I'm off to Spain.

Excellence in action, thank you for showing it.

Mostly they seem to be Congress, but any other old Hens&Roosters around? I'd like to get one of these knives sometime.

Happy to help, If you want to see this kind of quality you need to look at the knives I am having made in Taiwan and China. I learned a tremendous amount in the five years I owned Hen & Rooster

If the knife says "Bertram Cutlery", it's post 1980 and not a real Bertram Hen&Rooster. Also the "real" ones never had a shield. Knowing that helps on ebay when the pics don't show the markings.
I have 20 or so Bertram folders but i'm away from most of my knives for about another 5 weeks, so i can't take pics and show off.

Yet another thing I love about old Hen and Roosters; they had the sense not to clutter up nice stag with un-needed shields. I wish more knife companies would follow suit. Look at that nice old congress of Arathol's. Can you imagine sticking a shield in the middle of that great old Stag? It should be a felony offense with flogging.

Carl.

Yes, I agree there on those slim handled smaller Congress models, no need for a shield really.

Pre-1980 H&R's are fantastic knives. I have 2, both of the CM series that AG Russell produced during his time as owner of the company. Wonderful knives, almost custom quality.

Here is the CM-6 (a single bladed small jack knife)

And this is CM-5 (whittler pattern)

Charles, nice Pen knives. You have a great collection with a wide variety of knives, especially Pen knives, which seem to be under appreciated by many of today's collectors.

Charles, i very much appreciate the many fine knives you have passed along to me, especially the high end vintage pearl Pen and Lobster folders. They are some of my best knives.

I have a small stockman from the early 80s (I think). It's a really nice knife. It's been my EDC for about a year. The only knife I have as nice is a hand picked Case.

Charles shows a marvelous knife with that Stag Pen. That would put a stop to my collecting mania! pro-tem:D

"That would put a stop to my collecting mania"
YES, an end to the MANIA, that which so many of us seek and it may be with the next knife !
"One is too many and a thousand never enough". A quote known to many here i'm sure.
