Besides CPK knives, whaddaya like?

Thanks for posting the nice group photo. The other company certainly makes high quality products, but the comparison of the four designs here makes me appreciate the LC/SC ergos and blade functionality even more than I already do.

Sometimes group comparison photos lead me to pursue knives I have not considered before. Other times they validate the choice I already made. We all have unique preferences, so both outcomes are valuable when deciding how to spend our limited funds.

Thanks for validating my choice of the Light Chopper. 😉

CPK knives are def more my speed than the other brand, although I own several of each . The Sykco is really hard to beat as a beater by the backyard fire place tho . I take much better care of Nathan’s creations

Yeah. I had several Busse knives at one point. They’re all gone now.

The Infi B10 with the thermomolded handle (similar to the Sykco above) had the most comfortable handle out of them (and was the only one I considered keeping), but the CPK MC became my Goldilocks large camp knife, so I let the B10 go to someone who might use it.

That’s the thing, though; I mentioned before, that when you handle and use various CPKs, even a blind man would figure out that they’re from the same ‘family’ of knives, because you can feel the iterative design features in the handles (with both improvements over the generations like the FK1 to FK2 etc., and differences targeting different applications eg. FK2/FK3 vs UF1/UF2/Shiv1/Shiv2), but they all share ergonomic features that Nate’s developed over time.

The handles of the various Busse knives did not have that feel. Some of them were just blocky. Some were over contoured. Some were under contoured. It felt like there wasn’t really a design ethos to them. More like a, “This should be cool/different” mentality.

That is true.

However, there is way, way more choice on the Busse side, more "families", in your words. Meaning for every CPK knife, if you just look at blade or overall length, you have more than a handful of choices on the Busse side, so you can pick your poison, including the most ergonomic offerings, or the "zombie look", or whatever. Not saying this is good or bad, Busse is just a bigger company.

Also, there are knives on the CPK side that have - IMO - no Busse equivalent (DEK1, UF, Shiv, for instance). The reverse is true as well: the whole SYKCO RES-C line is not comparable to CPK, IMO, knife construction and balance (and price) are completely different. One of my favorite Busse is the 8" DSF, it has no CPK equivalent. Etc.

It's good to have choice.
