Best 2 x 72 for Me?

What's the short story on KMG? Strange to see people saying to stay away, I remember when everyone was recommending them as the best starter choice

Limited choices when the KMG was popular. I had two and they served me well. Now a lot of BETTER options for same or less $$!

My KMG took alot of work to get it tuned right.
I got one of the later ones back in 2014 and it had alignment issues, lots of vibration, and (in my opinion) bad customer service.

With all the modifications now it’s a great grinder, but took lots of money and aggravation to get there. Luckily there were guys like Matt Gregory and Nathan Carothers coming up with mods and upgrades to keep this grinder somewhat competitive.

It’s too bad too, it really wouldn’t take much manufacturing to make it stay up with the times.

There’s just so many more options in the market today, than when kmg was in its prime. There was a time when they were the best option for the price, and they were staying relevant and innovating, with horizontal grinders, disc grinders, and their rotary platen (which still stands out IMO). That said, they seem to have stopped innovating, and from what I’ve been hearing, the fit up of their latest machine are hit or miss, and same goes for customer service.
It’s a shame, IMO, as Beaumont could easily jump right back to the head of the pack with just a couple of minor changes to their lineup. That’s not to say they aren’t still selling more grinders than they can make (they may very well be), but as far as remaining the “knife maker’s grinder”, they’re certainly sliding down in rank.
