Best $25-$30 knife for edc?

My favorites (Skyline, Persistence and Tremor) have been mentioned already. You wouldn't have gotten a list this long five years ago.

Cold Steel Tuff Lite, ergos allow you to get a feel for a strider sng or any spyderco with a front choke choil.

Hey pinnah, I had seen that pass-around you were running for the Opinel. I didn't sign up but I gotta admit, you piqued my interest and now I own a No. 8 carbon. I didn't expect it to feel so good in hand.

Pinnah did the same thing to me, 8 weeks later the #8 has been in my pocket everyday and my BM's & others are gathering dust, the Opi has done everything asked of it

Mike, I didn't convince you of anything. The Opinel did.

I shared my experience. You had an open mind and tried one. After that, everything is between you and the Opinel.

They aren't for every one. A bit crude. Takes some time to smooth out and break in.

But I think the biggest hurdles are emotional or irrational. How could a knife that cheap and that old fashion be that durable and cut so well? It goes against everything we're thought. "Old means outdated" and "You get what you pay for."

You are correct & I thank you for that.
The Opinel & I really hit it off.
Since then I've gifted 3, going to gift another tomorrow to a friend who reloads for me & has never asked for anything in return.
Everyone who I have gifted one to has been very appreciative. I give them the knife, then send a link to the history.
Each time I've gotten a follow up thank you soon after, thanking me again & letting me know what a great knife it is.

Kershaw skyline cost more than 30 now a days and the spyderco tenacious. U can get a ontario rat 1 on amizon for 28 buck's. I just got a cold steel tuff lite around that much and it's a really cool work knife for the money! If I were u I would spend 35 and get the tenacious. If it has to be under 30 there's always the spyderco byrd line..like the g10 cara cara. It's a good beater knife.

Kershaw skyline, or spyderco tenacious.

One more + for the tenacious. I have one in my pocket right now. It's against my values to carry a china made knife but my nephew got it for me for Father's Day. A gracious gift from a 14 year old who paid for it himself... Back to the topic. Solid lock up, easy to disassemble for cleaning, easy to re sharpen a the sharpest out of the box little knife I've had in quite some time!

Its really a choice of manufacturer and possibly county of origin. You can get great knives around that price mark. There really aren't any bad choices that have been mentioned. And it depends on the task at hand. For a good edc knife; you really can't beat out the Rat-1, Dozier, just about anything Kershaw, just about anything Byrd/Tenacious series.

Lot of good choices in that price range.

RAT I or II
Kershaw Skyline
Outdoor Edge Pocket Lite or Pocket Grip
Buck Bantam (various sizes)
Buck Vantage Select

This is the cheapest knife I own. It's now my regular EDC, as it's quite possibly my favorite folder. I've beat the living heck out of it in both ruggedness and cutting abilities, and it's come back for more when knives costing four times as much have failed to do the task. I think the Ontario Utilitac II is heavily under rated. If you want a budget EDC that will take some abuse, look no further.

Some of my others that it's completely stripped of their duties.

I had a Cryo II, and it is a sturdy knife. The blade steel isn't the greatest, but for your price point, that's what you're going to get. If it were a left-handed knife, I would have kept it.

it's going to be dang hard to beat one of the ESEE designed folders. The RAT 1 and 2 from Ontario, and the Zancudo frame lock from BRK. All three under $30. Decent AUS 8 steel, and all well made.
This is the Zancudo

Impressed with the Ka-Bar Dozier designs, wow, really nice. I have a RAT-1 and find it to be a good EDC too. The Ka-Bar however is so light and thing its like its not there.

Rat 1, great EDC
