Best 3-1/2-4in folder for hunting expedition.

I would buy him a mora and then get him a nice folder!
After reading all of the responses about fixed blades and talking to my friend, and doing some thinking, I think this is the best idea. A Mora in stainless for the hunt and maybe a Endura or Benchmade for EDC. I will also add, I have been bitten by the knife bug really badly... I just bought a Military on the exchange forum, so if he likes the look and feel of that, it might be a pretty good field/EDC blade.
@ Hard Knocks, that thing is gorgeous. @ Cypress, I'm pretty sure he is heading out from Bozeman. Thanks again for the feedback, and if anyone is interested, I can post some results concerning the knives and hopefully photos of his elk, if he is fortunate enough to take one.

You are welcome. Good luck to your friend for a safe and successful hunt. And, Yes, we are interested in the results :)

+1 that he needs a fixed knife now for the trip and he can decide on an EDC later, no hurry.

For EDC I recommend a SAK, Victorinox, Champ model or better. Tell him to pony up the few extra bucks and get all the bells and whistles, he'll want the whole buffet eventually anyway, it's worth it, and no one ever decides they have TOO MUCH SAK.

So, a little update. My friend got back from his hunt a few days ago. After five days of stalking, no luck on any elk. Plenty of moose, but he didn't have a tag. He said the moose were so close, he could have stabbed one :D. After talking with him, he decided to get a Blur in S30V for EDC, which I thought was a good choice. I told him to get a Mora for a fixed blade because of the price and the wicked edge Sandvik seems to be able to take, but he couldn't decide. I got a text from him the next day that he ordered a knife he thought was awesome, a Puma Coyote in 440A . Needless to say, I was a little disappointed in that decision, but at least he's got a good folder now. Thanks again for all of the suggestions.
