if i want will use it a lot for processing wood, and dont want to reprofile the edge, what should i get? still 4" or less, maybe a little more, sub $50

Find something with a Scandinavian grind or a convex grind with a full tang.

Mora's are great for the money.

I've carried a Buck 102 'Woodsman' as a boot knife for 15 years or so. I've even batoned with it. Stainless, holds a decent edge, easy to sharpen, looks good so it's sheeple friendly. If I break it or lose it in the river I won't cry, I'll just buy another one.

Again, for about $25...

I still can't get over what a nice blade this is.

The new for 2011 Condors are much better than the older thicker versions. They are thinner, and there is no wasted steel.

Spend another $10 and get a Becker BK 2. You won't be sorry. One of the toughest knives for the money out there.

Becker or Condor ... be really the only knives I can think of ... maybe find something used and slightly abused cheap.
Like 2 of the 50 dollar Blind Horse knives ... please.
W/C lol

Mine came as sort of a combo convex/hollow ground. On a belt sander, I made it a full convex. Plus, the point had a sharp drop in the last 1/8" that rendered it a non point. I started about an inch and a half back and turned it into a slight drop point knife. It did a decent job field dressing a deer. It held the edge through the task. Not my first choice.

so what is wrong with the edge on the condor bushcraft 4"? why does it need to be reprofiled?
