We've all gotten life changing advise from someone, sometimes for the better.

So what advice have you received or given that has been life changin'?

For me, it was when my Grandmother came out to this country 25+ years ago and met my girlfriend at my mothers farm the day we slaughterin' two hogs for my mother.

She was so impressed with the fact that my girlfriend was helpin', she pulled me off to the side and said in hungarian, "I know she's not hungarian, (she's polish) but if you don't marry this girl your gonna regret it later."

I don't have any regrets and I've been married to her for over 25 years now.

So what life changin' advice have you been given or gave to someone else, (remember this is community so keep it clean and family oriented)?

Whatever you do, do it like you mean it, and What goes around, comes around. These are some of the best advise I ever got.

On my 5th birthday my dad gave me a small buck folder and told me to carry it with me everywhere I went - even school (which suprised me). I've taken his advice even though I've lost that buck. Righ now I have my Mini-Grip instead.

That was in 1986, I suppose a lot has changed since then.

From my late mother: "Win, always date women with small hands" Took years before I knew what she meant.

Win

"Never put your d**k into any girl you wouldn't want to be stuck dealing with for at least the next 18 years"

slaughterin hogs together? que romantico!

From my Grand Father married over 50 years before he passed away: Never go to bed angry with your wife. If you have to stay up all night work it out.

From my Dad: Never lend money to friends or relatives. Give them the money instead.

Also from my Dad: Never mock or take advantage of the poor. Protect and defend them instead.

Here's what I've tried to teach a few young'uns.

Rule #1: Go home safe at the end of your shift!

Rule #2: Help your coworkers to go home safe, too.

Rule #3: Try not to break the equipment.

Rule #4: NEVER FORGET RULE #1!

From my dad around the time I was getting married, "When she tells you to sleep on the couch tell her 'It's my bed and if you don't want to sleep with me then you go sleep on the couch.'" Worked like a charm when it came up. Now if she's mad at me she'll sleep on the couch and if I'm mad at her I'll sleep there.

From my Oldman, In regards to stupid people, he said, "Life's too short to waste talkin' to 'em"

I was also fond of. "Never p*ss off the person who cooks your food" :D

From my Dad: Don't get into a pissing contest with a skunk, because even when you win, you still lose.

Your Dad and your Grandfather sound like good men.

You are a lucky man my friend.

Not sure of the best advice, but this lesson is up there for me.

My Granny told me a long time ago, "It ain't what you want that does you the most good... it's what you get!"

I have found that to be true on many occasions.

Couple that have served me well in the professional realm:

"If you like what you're doing, you only need to break even. If you don't like what you're doing, you better be making some money".

Also

"Work to learn, not to earn".
