Best advice you've ever gotten, or given.

To get along at home: "Don't marry anyone thinking that you will change them or that they will change."

To get along at work: "Keep your nose clean."

I just heard one yesterday that they use at my kids school.
“buy a can of “Suck it up” and use it!”

I like this one.
How old are your kids? Is this a public school? It's my impression based on local climate that parents would complain and teachers could get fired for such a comment. Meaning that some parents could benefit from the same advice.

This may come as a surprise, so prepare yourself. :) My kids ( 5 yr old twin boys ) are in kendergarden. It actually started with the guidance counslor <sp and has been pickedup by most of the school. They use it to motivate the kids to do what needs to get done. It does seem to work.

Good for them!:)

I used to teach private lessons to middle-school and high school kids and I can't remember more belly aching and excuses. I didn't see how they were ever going to get good at anything if they didn't just buck up and WORK.

I gave one talented kid a B+ her first semester and I got grief from both the parent and the kid. I told the kid she would probably get an A the next term if she applied herself. The mother let the kid quit.

"It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up."

this one is from my father who said it was from his father: if u never expect anything in life u wont be disappointed
ive learned its quite true

Don't know where I first heard this:
No good deed goes unpunished.

My dad's bit of wisdom:
It's just as easy to love a rich one.

My own gem:
Don't sweat the big stuff.

My Dad told me along time ago "Never put anything cheap between you and the ground .... tires, shoes, mattress."

A guy I used to work wiht told me this it was the first thing he was told when he started on the raillroad when he was young.

Always tkae a dump on company time.

From my dad:

"I've been rich, and I've been poor....poor sucks"...very, very true.

"We are a results-oriented society.....effort is great...but it is better to have something to show for it, grades, $$$ or the girl"....also very true.

My business partner:

"The bigger they are...the harder they hit"

Of course they are all good, but this one sits well with me. You spend about 1/3 of your life on a mattress and in certain professions another 1/3 on your feet, not to mention 1/3 in a car for other professions. Saving a few bucks on cheap can lead to constant pain, misery, or even accidents. Great advice.
