Whats your opinion on the best all around knife company out there? I know B.M. and spyderco's are going to to be up there. Just curious to see if any others make the spot and why?????

Kershaw. My dad has a knife of theirs that's over 10 years old. Still as shiny and sturdy as ever. I've never heard anything bad about them. And I have my Kershaw and it's a beautiful knife

Several "best" companies which put out reliable knives at competitive prices. What you'll get with the question you asked is "favorite" based on personal preferences.

In competition with Benchmade and Spyderco, you would have to look at Kershaw also.

These are mid-range. For mid-range tacticals, Ontario and RAT, and Ka-Bar. For high end, you could consider Chris Reeve, Busse and family, and Strider. Emerson is in there somewhere, too.

Kershaw. ... I've never heard anything bad about them.

I'll tell you something bad about them. They are alluring and addictive, and there is no end to their increasingly sophisticated new models.

Just when you think they've taken the Leek and the Bump as far as they can go, they come up with the Zero Tolerance knives.

What's next? Don't tell me !!!

:p

They have some of the best looking practical knives i've ever seen

It's hard not to want to buy more! But fortunately I love my blur and don't really want to make it jealous

Kershaw spyderco and Bm are pretty much tied, but if i had to choose one it would be Benchmade, gotta love the axislock.

I agree...Kershaw. Very competitive prices and addicting new models.

+1 on Esav's response.
add Bark River for hunting knives.

I can't go for an all around favorite. My favorite folding knife makers don't make my favorite fixed blade knives and vice versa.

KAI!

Kershaws for everyday, Shuns for the kitchen, and Zero Tolerance for when the zombies are a-comin! doubtlessly the best all-around, and with the best customer service out there to boot!

Buck. They make a little of everything. In the folder department, the 110 is still the best bang for the Buck, IMHO, (Yes - pun intended!) for that size of knife; if you need something smaller, get a 55. For fixed blades, the 119 is just about perfect in looks, form and function. For the smaller stuff like pocket knives, they got them too.

I like a lot of other brands out there, but Buck is still my favorite.

thx - cpr

Kershaw, Spyderco. I am not fan of one or other company, but lately I only those two delivers knives which attract my attention.

Thanks, Vassili.

Another vote for Kershaw. A good quality folder can be had in the $ 70 and under range (Cyclone, ENER-G), and if you're looking for a frame lock, the Groove or Shallot.

Up the price and go for what I would consider as close to a "custom" quality folder, and you have the Mini Cyclone dressed up with titanium handles, a frame lock and ZDP-189 steel. Switchable on/off AO, just like all Cyclones. It's a great value in the $ 150 price range.

Looking for a tank of a folder? The ZT 0200 or 0300 Series, with the latter being AO. TADGEAR has some incredible Onion/Strider/Kershaw collaborations of the ZT0300 series that are beautiful. Price on these range from around $ 130 (for the ZT0200 non-AO) to the ZT0300CFBLK from Tad Gear at a little over $ 300.

Now they announce their personalized brand of 14C28N steel...things just keep getting better and better for them...and harder and harder on my wallet.

Hard to argue with all of the above. But if I could only buy from one company for the rest of my life, it would probably be Fallkniven.

Spyderco is hands down my favorite knife company. They've a great variety of knives of all sizes and shapes to select from, are industry innovators, and offer usability and ergonomics that other companies can only dream about. Also, the founder and CEO is a great guy.

Swamp Rat, Scrap Yard, Bark River, Ranger Knives, and Ontario (Specifically their RAT line, Jeff and Mike are great).
