best all around knife company?????????

Busse (including Swamp Rat & Scrapyard), Bark River, Ranger, Severtech, RAT cutlery, and Kershaw.

Mora, Spyderco and Buck. Does that narrow it down?...maybe not, but all make great knives. I am a great fan of affordable, yet extremely functional knives. I'm not one to spend an exorbinant amount on a knife when a affordable knife will function just as well as a knife costing $50-more. It may not be as sexy, but I'm more concerned about function and not something that reflects my exagerated testosterone level. It would be rare for me to spend more than $25.00 for a knife.

I would have to say that Spyderco is best all around, followed by Benchmade. Spyderco doesn't have as much of a fixed blade offering as Benchmade but I do think their knives as a whole a bit better...But that's splittin' hairs.

Several "best" companies which put out reliable knives at competitive prices. What you'll get with the question you asked is "favorite" based on personal preferences.

In competition with Benchmade and Spyderco, you would have to look at Kershaw also.

These are mid-range. For mid-range tacticals, Ontario and RAT, and Ka-Bar. For high end, you could consider Chris Reeve, Busse and family, and Strider. Emerson is in there somewhere, too.

Ditto.

I'd have a hard time deciding between Kershaw and Spyderco for a production folder ... BUT ... I pretty much had to mortgage my soul to Jerry Busse for that last custom fixed blade (anniversary steel heart 1). :D

yet one more for Kershaw. great products, and a warranty service that goes beyond what the lil paper in the knife box says. if there is ever a problem, talk to Thomas over in the Kershaw forum. He'll tell ya what to do :D

Busse Combat wins my vote, no contest.
Spyderco is a distant second.

All around knife company though? I drink the Kool Aid for sure but I don't think you can be considered as an all around knife company if you've got no folders...

ummm how about SOG i own a SOG seal pup elite and honestly its one of the best outdoors knives i have ever owned and iv owned quite a few, kershaws bucks and ontarios list goes on. all in all its all up to personal opinion really

Busse, Ranger, or Fallkniven for fixed blades and Spyderco or Kershaw for folders in my opinion.

I have a SOG Seal Pup and a Seal Pup Elite. Both are very nice fixed-blade knives for the price. However, I've yet to meet a SOG folder that could keep up with Kershaw or Spyderco. And I've owned plenty, too.

So as Mr. Clean said above, to be considered best all around, you have to have both. Sorry, no offense, but SOG folders aren't up to the performance or value of Kershaw, Spydie or BM.

I vote for Victorinox. Simply because thats all i have carried everyday for around 15 years. All others noted are very nice, I just don't carry them.

Just loosen up on that Blade '07 Clip Point ASH1 and I can help you buy some of your soul back!
