Best American Made Folding Knife for the Money

Lot of great US made knives for the $$, but for $27 I think a Buck 110 is hard to beat for what you get.

Kershaw Link. 420hc, assisted and can be deassisted, great size, amazing warranty and American made all the way. 7 versions available for whatever your flavor may be.

And you won't break $50 for any one of them

Among modern folders:
Kershaw Skyline, Link, Blur, Leek...whichever one fits best
In the $50 to $70 price range those are really the best choices unless you can hand pick a Buck Vantage in S30V with good fit and finish.
Just above that range you can look at a Spyderco Native or a Benchmade Grip/Mini Grip.

Edit: Wow, just realized this was a necro thread!!

My little buck vantage is an awesome knife and it cost me less than 40 USD.

Production: Spyderco Manix 2

Higher end production: Southern Grind Spider Monkey

High End: Three Sisters Forge Beast

My experience with US made Buck is off-center blades rubbing on the liner (Vantage Avid), stiff action when centering the blades (both), and play in the lock up (Spitfire). Equally or lower priced Chinese knives from Kershaw and Real Steel have been better quality construction IME.

I've ordered two Kershaw US made knives new (Skyline and Blur) and both had perfectly centered blades and solid lock up strait out of the box. So I would put Kershaw's US made knives at a level higher than Buck's

YMMV

This guy is amazing. Lol. Nobody beats a dead horse quite like him. The Buck knives you are referring to are not high level bucks. Both are mid 20 dollar knives. Yes the Vantage has spotty action but most are solid. The spit fire doesn't have too many complaints that I have seen. Try a 110 for 27 bucks. There are lots of solid knives under 50 dollars.

Send me your vantage and I will send you a 110 straight across.

Might want to look into Great Eastern Knives if you like traditional patterns. They are fantastic.

The GEC made stuff is pretty consistently very good, but for me it would be hard to stay inside the OP's budget and get what I like. Queen and Case are also US manufacturers of knives and they are less expensive. Queen has bumped up their quality a lot since the Daniel's took over. I suspect they want to gain the same appreciation for their better knives that GEC has earned. It will happen if they want it to.

The Spydie Native is a very good knife as mentioned above. I believe most of the Bucks are made in the US now. They are generally a good value.

I didn't read all of the responses. Increase your budget just a little bit and get a Benchmade Griptilian or buy one used.

Didn't notice the age of the thread. Sometimes people add to old threads rather than starting new ones, but that is not the case this time.

It's a 4 year old thread brought back to life by somebody who joined this month from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and has 9 posts.

I'll add my 2 cents: Handmade (not production) blades from Japan tend to have superior tips to handmade American blades in that they have correct geometry and fail (bend, chip, roll, etc) far less often.

It was a Vantage 846 so not a $20 something knife and I would have happily traded it for a far superior Kershaw Blur, but I sold it in person to a Buck Knife fanboy and used the cash to buy one of my current Blurs

Maybe you should quit being a Buck Vantage Shill and let me have my opinion...

Of course you can have an opinion. This whole thing is opinions. It's awesome. It just gets old hearing the same whine over and over and over. Lots of people have a bad experience but typically don't run with it. My bad if I offended. Take care. I'm glad you like your blur.
