Best argument for 'The Hole' ever.

Here is a pic of my Southard with a cracked hole. Is this the best argument for 'The Stud' ever? ;)

It might be to some:)
As others have mentioned, Im sure Spyderco knives break as well - as Lycosa says, tools break. This seems like a QC glitch of course, since you got it that way from the factory.
In full disclosure, this is a factory second and I purchased it this way.

Did it get sold labelled a 'factory second' much as SURVIVE does their 'seconds?' Im surprised, that Spyderco let this one slip by QC, IF that is what happened.
Id have 'thunk,' they might have wanted to keep it/destroy it, if a Spyderco worker had noticed the crack during QC.

Yup, it was sold as a second. I assume QC saw the crack and that is why it was a second. I have no idea how it happened. Maybe while cutting the whole or possibly during heat treat. I don't know?

Anyway, we agree more than we disagree my friend. I definitely prefer the hole over flippers, assisted openers, studs or any other opening method.

We have already been through this and decided to stick with knives (no pun intended) and dispense with the attacks. So please try to keep up and stay with the program.
When I want advice, Ill be sure to contact you. Dont hold your breath.
Please stick to debating knives in this thread or dont post at all.

Maybe you should take a dose of your own advice and stop with the sarcastic undertones or don't post at all. You can't tell people to be nice and then be a dick in the same post. It's not how this works. It's not how any of this works.

Insignificant noob blather everyone else has tried to move past
Please correct the word 'dxxk' in your post - this is the Spyderco sub forum in open forum, which is supposed to be family friendly.

Now you are just simply trolling a thread, which others have repeatedly tried to bring back on track. So noted.

Yes, we do. And thx for taking it in your stride.

Interesting, that it was sold as a second. I wonder, why Spyderco let it 'out of the house.' Maybe they deemed that it would not crack any further ....

NB This thread has far too few dual wielded Spyderco knives;)

To stay on topic, if a Spyderco has a defect at the opening device it's just a random QC glitch but when a thumbstud knife has a similar defect at a similar rate that's reason to not buy thumbstud knives?

In response to OP thumb studs can hinder at times not all the time the blade slicing action in certain practices. I like the studs and hole myself but I prefer the hole

I don't think a failure/defect on a single knife is grounds to deem it's opening mechanism not as good as another.

So, you like the Spidey hole, as do most people, but to claim it's better due to this situation is missing the mark. The two just don't coincide.

If I were trying to chose between the two mechanisms, the fact that one blade failed would not and should not have any impact on my decision. That would be mighty short sighted of me. I'm sure with a quick google search I could find a similar story about a Spyderco.

Just my 2 pennies.

By and large I agree with your post.

With the small caveat, that it wasnt just one thumb stud/post failure - it was several, as mentioned in the link.
I notice, several didnt read this, as they hang their hat on one knife with stud/post failure.

But you are right; Knives with studs/posts can fail as can Spyderco Knives. Both types have and most likely will in the future, as there is a human element.
