Best Assisted Openers

I have

Kershaw Blackout, Scallion green, Chive SS

SOG Twitch, Twitch II, Twitch XL, Flash II, Trident TF2

Before, my favorite was the Blackout, but I just got a Flash II CE black blade in trade over the weekend, and it is my new favorite speedster. Great edge, pops open real fast and just is a bad little knife!

Kershaw is the only assisted openers that I have tried and they are top notch. In particular I love the Boa, this is a great knife. I also had a chive and a leek and they were both great knives but a little too small for my liking.

BUCK Tempest with ATS-34 steel blade has a terrific assisted opening mechanism plus the lock is right next to the opening nub which makes it one handed easy. Perfect EDC with pull lanyard, tip up carry, nice and sharp out of the box. Never opened in my pocket. http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/410/260

All the best,

I have the Kershaw Onion set : chive, scallion, and leek (all these are great and they are all perfect sizes for something) I have the blur on order - heard it was pretty good too.

I wondere if you guys could help me out-which assisted opener has the biggest blade, second to the Camillus Aftermath?

Thanks.

I have a Scallion, a Chive, and an Avalanche. The Avalanche is a bit trickier because it only has a thumb stud and no flip lever. All of the Kershaws work great and fast.

I gave my brother a TiNi Scallion and a Rainbow Leek (both assisted) and the opener screwed up on the Scallion. He sent it to Kershaw with $5. Kershaw fixed it and sent it back with the $5:D .

I've also got a Dominator and I love the blade, the Steel (S30), and the Ti handles. But, I've got to say that the Robo-assist takes a little more effort probably because of the mass of the blade. I see AGRussell has a Dominator non-assist available. My knife knut buddies love to flick the Dominator. It's hefty:eek: .

They're all good though! :D

I think the Kershaw assisted openers are great. They have a great, no a fantastic service department also. When I called Kershaw to ask for a replacement torsion bar they sent me five. That is pretty great in my book.

I liked my Kershaw Black Out best but the Scallion is a great little folder also.

I've heard that the Leek is one of their best knives also.

A.G. Russell turned me on to some of the Camillus assisted openers and they have a pretty impressive snap to them even beyond the Kershaws so I would not discount those either.

Kershaws. It's just really tough to beat the value. I have several of the assorted sizes and materials. My favorite is the leek. Just about right for EDC. I broke a spring in my favorite one after 5,000-6,000* snaps. Kershaw sent a bag of replacements that got to me in less than 48 hours. The replacement spring has been going well past 30,000 snaps*.

Kershaw and Mr. Onion has some great new speed-safe designs being unveiled at blade. These include a couple with S30V steel and G10. I'm sure you'de have to pay the premium, but they are still sure to be a value.

*Estimated after determining how many times a day the knife gets snapped open for actual use, for demonstration, and just for fun.

I have a Camillus Heat, Kershaw Whirlwind, Buck Rush. Assisted openers on all 3 work really great ;) Heat has seen the most use. I found that the Rush was a bit difficult to close but all are great buys for the money.

I'm pretty impressed with BM 670 (Apparition) and it's optimizer system. I'm not much "auto friendly" but this system got me.

The best part is that you can disable the system, removing the spring with a single screw, and having a perfect plain single bladed locking folder.

It's one of the best and most beautifull knives I've seen in a while, except for the "Kudu Horn Styled Scale" that looks a little cheap. (Mine is at work now, fixing some pretty nice looking Ebony scales ;) )

That's my two cents,

I have a couple of Buck Sirus with the ats34 and ti handles. Is Very nice..... It can be assist or manual. Yeah,,,I tend to buy em 2 at a time...

Played with a Dominator. Very nice also... is on my "want" list.

Picked up the Benchmade Apparition 670 yesterday - man it is awesome.
I would recommend this one to anyone - I still want to try a Kershaw Bump -
I wish there was a good knife store around me to try things out - I have bought 5 knives off ebay in the last week just to find a favorite - family is going to get knives for Christmas!

My favorite was the Timberline-sharp-fast-comfortable. SOG'S safety tends to rattle and feel cheap. Cold steel is due to make an assisted folder. Kershaw's leek, scallion etc. all felt unatural to open in my hand. The Kershaw tactical Blur has become my EDC, fast, sharp, strong, tremendous feel in my hand and the feel of the textured scales and inserts give a secure feel even when wet with water/blood and available in gray, red, or my favorite BLACK! Combo/plain edge, tanto, drop point, or blunt, with black or silver blade. They have all the options, for all possible uses for a folder.LOVE IT.

Best looking? The Rainbow Leek.

Was knife of the year 2002!!! Still looks like it just came out of a greasy oil can though!

Anyone having cleaning issues with all those tiny parts? Not exactly a Swiss watch but still more complicated than your basic folder.

I just learned about the Random Leek....I like it wayyyy more than the regular Leek....has a beautiful blade and S30V...
125 is pretty steep though.

Myself i have a scallion that i edc now an then.

I wish it had a blade in S30 or other higher end steel thent he 420hc it does posses.

Heya, AM, you ought to see what that translates too in can bucks bro, after the duties and conversion and gettin past customs, its a steal at $125 US,really.
