Best bang for $... production knives

For CS, BM, no hassle, just call.

I've got free, a free hardware package in the mail when I asked to buy a replacement for a stripped screw.

Case, Sodbusters and Yeller Handles for price paid might be the hardest working folding knives around.

Buck, while I don't like everything they make most are well worth the price paid and everyone should own a 110.

Boker, their traditional folders are just great plain ol'pocket knifes.

Rat, for the price you get a lot of knife with them.

Bark River, with their plain jane models there is a ton of bang for the $.

Kabar, GI model military knife of the free world since WWII.

Spyderco, sure they can look funky to a geezer like me but a hard working knife none the less.

Leatherman, sure they're just not knives but they can be useful little devils to have on you.

RAT-1 at around $25 is great value. You get a solid folder that will take a lot of abuse for a great price. It probably is the best bang for the buck of the knives I have.

I think Vics are great--great customer service in my exeprience. The scissors busted on one of mine and I just got a brand new knife=)

i have a hand full of kershaws.my lahar is favorite.if you haven't checked this knife out you need to.though i prefer bm & spyderco to carry the lahar looks & feels like $100 folder. heavy vg10 blade & g10 scales.flipper on mine is buttery smooth. i give it a A+. can not think of better made knife for less than twice its price.

I think the Spyderco M4 and S90V Mule Team knives were the best bang for your buck. I think they were $69 each. They were a limited run though.

Can't beat the KaBar USMC knife for $49.

Himalayan Imports ...for their hand made products, although no two are ever exactly alike, that come with unbeatable customer service if an issue should ever arise.

Spyderco represents the greatest balance between finish, quality, price and performance in folders.

Leatherman, Ka-Bar, Victorinox, RAT, Buck, American-Made Schrade.

All have really good warranty service and meet all the needs I have for a decent price.

I consider Emersons to be a good value for the dollar, but in the final analysis, the prize has just got to go to Kershaw. The quality you get for the dollar is remarkable.

The absolute best bargain for a folder is the Buck 110 via Wally World - $27 - a steal!

The best bargain in a fb is no doubt your favorite style of Bark River in their low-end micarta or G10 handle. Great bargains in a semi-custom production fb.

For a slippie, the US-made Bucks are nice - the German-made Boker Tree Brand carbon steel 'classics', especially via evil-bay, are bargains.

For more interesting folders - assisted or not - Kershaw and Spyderco are tied - for second. My choice for first place is Benchmade - great customer service, too.

Like others have said, no matter what your personal preference in knives...

Kershaw,Buck,Kabar,Spyderco/Byrd,Mora,R.A.T.,ZT...............

There's heaps of bargins around.

I'd say Spyderco/Byrd followed by MT. .....

Happy Thanksgiving. I agree with Spyderco. They seem to have a grasp of the tradeoff between quality and cost that no other firm does. Kershaw is almost as good, but chooses cost over quality a bit more (Sandvik steel vs VG-10). CRKT chooses cost, but at least they pass the savings on to the buyer, unlike Cold Steel, which makes CRKT knives at Spyderco or Benchmade prices (or more.)

Lava_lamp, the reason Kershaw uses Sandvik is because their knives that use it are American made, made not Japanese made like some of the Spydercos that use VG10, and FWIW, Sandvik is an exceptional steel for my uses.
