Whats the best "cheap" knife you have ever used or owned? My guess is that nobody can beat the CS Bushman... got mine for less than fifteen bucks (10% off because I'm an EMT) in the Special Projects catolog. What a work horse!

The Buck Protege is awesome. $20 at Wal-Mart. A great deal in my opinion. Solid lock, comfortable handle. Only problem is after like two or three years, it has started to develop very minor side to side blade play.

My pick is any of the knives by Frosts or Erickkson of Mora, Sweden. Less than $10 for the basic models, good steel. One of the best knife deals going.

THe cheapest knife I have ever owned is one that I got from a friend. I was sharpening it and the blade broke off the body. I know how to sharpen knifes so I know this wasn't my fault.

May not qualify as really cheap, but certainly a lot less than most of my other knives.

$39.99 at SMKW gets you a Spyderco Rookie in G-10, ATS-55 steel, and basically a bank-vault solid little package. Reminds me of the Wegner Jr. as it too has a nice heft. Really a bargain at 40 bucks.

Good cheap knife... SAK (Camper or Spartan) for around $20 and I have an old Western Bowie (about the same size as the big Case Bowie) which I have beat the hell out of for the past 20 years clearing brush. I can't remember what I paid for it but it wasn't much.

Don't overlook the Spec Plus line of knives! Their folders and especially their straight blades are bargain priced. I have a Marine Combat model and I got it for around $20.

About double the price of a CS Bushman, but it's worth it. Very nice for such a cheep knife

Gigand Summit. Solid and smooth little liner-lock for around $20. A daily carry for me.

Attention: Some assembly may be required. Batteries not included.

My vote goes for the Opinels, without question. Carbon steel ones. They probably are better than a lot of my more expensive knives.
I too have the Bushman, but have yet to put it to use.

Myu vote goes to Opinel too. They are great cheap knives, and fun to. I learned how to sharpen an convex knife from working with my Opinel.

Another one of the good cheap knives I got at Wal-Mart was the Gerber EZ-OUT. $30 or so. The lock wasn't as strong as I'd hoped, but it was still a solid knife. The Kraton inserts in the Zytel handle gets a good solid grip on it while you open the knife. I carried that knife for 2 years. I ended up selling it to a friend for $10 (to get him started on knives, but his evil parents later confiscated it because they thought it was a "weapon". it made me quite upset). I've found that with that knife you can open it really quickly by using your middle finger to push the hole and making a quick wrist snap.

Is really possible to open a knife that way, Comrade, without hurting yourself or dropping the knife?
