best "cheap" knife

Ragnar is correct about the Helle's, they are cutting fools. I had a lot of fun experimenting with them, and they sure do stay sharp a long time.

Gerber E-Z-Out. I carry one with me
every day for over 3 years. I USE it at least 2 times a day and still no blade play.

I paid about $5 for a CS Special Projects double edged knife with a 5" blade. It's made of really thin 1095 high carbon, poorly finished with slapped-on wooden scale handles. It's been a fantastic beater knife for the price, holds a pretty good edge and I don't mind using it hard because it was so cheap.

Schrade PH1 Skinner, Loveless style blade w/micarta handles. Picked up at Wal-mart during a close-out sale for a mere price of $15.00. Best utility blade a man could want for a small expense. Skinned three hogs and two deer and never had to stop and re-sharpen.

Schrade Old Timer two-blade jack. The only thing "cheap" about this inexpensive knife is the handle material (not that it won't hold up - it will - it's just that it's not stag or bone, etc.) I'm a huge fan of the carbon steel as it takes a killer edge in no time at all. No problems with rust, either ... I just take care of it like you should. You get much more Schrade for the money than you do Case, no question.
