Best "CHINA" Buck !!

Some of you probably know this, but when I took the tour in Post Falls i was told by the guide that the China knives are all sent to Post Falls for quality control inspection.

I didn't know that. That's a reassuring bit of info.

I have 6 Buck 300 series import slipjoints and I love them. I had one knife with a defective scale but I think it was a fluke. Buck sent me a replacement knife that I'm very pleased with. I am looking forward to seeing what new knives will come out for the import 300 series.

Oh and in response to the original question, my favorite Chinese manufactured Buck is the 372 Muskrat.

My son gave me a Buck Mayo Cutback that he got on sale for $15 (it was all he could afford). At first I carried it around to make him happy. Now I carry it to make me happy. I also like the 300 series slippies, the Christmas Edition, 3 for $30, was a pretty sweet deal.

I don't mind Buck offering some China made knives at a great price as long as the quality is there. But please don't transfer all production there - especially the Buck 110!

None-to-date :) but I am thinking of giving an Xtract a try???? A red set consisting of hatchet, hand saw and Xtract in a possibles bag for the truck.....courtesy of the Buck - Pacific Rim connection... of course yet another USA 119 for kicks!
Any one else thinking or already have such a convenience in the vehicle?

Dave

Better add a folding shovel, waterproof match container and duct tape and you are ready to go. Maybe a compass, it might be a cloudy dark night. Everybody remembers the compass a sort of GPS without batteries.......300$s

With all the other manufacturers either going to a Chinese line of knives or going under,(at least giving up a lot of business)I'm glad Buck did this and continues to make a great product here in the U.S.All of the Buck Foreign product i've had has been excellent quality.I've torn several apart and put them back together. The knives are very strong.I don't like it,but it's the way it is.Buck Knives is just doing what they've always done.Survive, change as needed, and prosper with the times.

I have the Buck Bantam 286 and that is a great china made buck knife. Great size and shape and works for everything.

Well, another Buck collecter/acculmator now has mine to make room for one with a LED light...Dont you just love a package from Peru !!!

Where are USA Buck slipjoints made, anyhow? In house? I thought they farmed them out to companies like Camillus.

The very earliest (about 67-72 as I recall) 300 series slipjoints were made for Buck by Schrade, after which Camillus took over until about 1985. After that time, all models were manufactured in house by Buck. There are some slipjoints, and these are given different model numbers to distinguish them from the old series, that are currently manufactured in China; however, the old 300 series are still made right here in the good old USA by Buck. I'm sure 300 Bucks will be along in the near future and further clarify things.

I'm wondering if there is any difference between the 420HC used in the china-made buck's and the 420HC in American made versions.
Has anyone that has got both types of knives noticed any difference in performance between the two?

I've got several of both, and I honestly cannot tell any difference.

I haven't seen any big difference in the performance of either the china made and american made buck knives. I actually really like the sharpness of the Buck Bantam 286 that I have.

Thanks. I thought this was maybe possible because it sounded difficult to me to do the heat treat exactly the same in both country's.

I know Paul Bos organises the heat treat in the USA, but I didn't know if he was able to oversee it in China too.
