I'm talking about a clear case of a defective product . Not owner abuse or wear and tear .

If it’s a clear defect in the knife, then why bother with the dealer? I’d think you would have far better luck going directly to the manufacturer and seeing if they would warranty it

take advantage of.

I've spent a bloody small fortune from dealers over 50 years and made very few problems for any of them . If anybody got financially hurt , it wasn't them . :p

Please explain why ! o_O

Because you’re asking a third party to deal with a warranty claim between you and the manufacturer. There’s no reason why they should be doing that for you.

A warranty is between a product’s maker and it’s owner. A retailer is a third party and doesn’t owe it to you to handle your warranty claims against someone else.

This is like, so simple dude.

Simple but completely wrong IMO . ;)

If there’s a problem right from the box, then returning to the dealer is fine.

Defects that show up over time should be sent back to the dealer so that they are aware of the defect and can handle it accordingly.

It seems wrong to hold the dealer responsible after you’ve inspected the knife and deemed it OK to begin using.

Everyone's already said it, but you won't find good dealers with a good selection with that kind of return policy. Knife center and BladeHQ accept returns within 2-3 months, but it has to be unused.

Seriously...just handle defects through dealers. If it's a knife you like enough to have kept and used it for a week, let alone a couple months, then repairs or replacements from a manufacturer shouldn't be an issue for you - you're shipping the knife somewhere either way.
