Ok guys, So im selling my psp since I dont play it anymore. I have like $350 worth of stuff for it, including the system. I want to know a good edc folder that can be used for a little carving and genral outdoors stuff. I would like a knife no bigger then the spyderco para military. You guys have any ideas? Its times like thease when you wish RAT had a folder. (hint hint) also- try to keep the price under $100

All my folders are gone except my Spyderco Manix and foliage green G-10 Endura.

I very rarely carry a folder anymore but couldn't bring myself to trade those off.

I've been very pleased with my Emerson Horseman (mini CQC8). Good size, awesome blade shape and tough as nails. I think you can find them at New Graham or Keenzo for $115... A bit over your budget but I think it is worth it.

For a less expensive but still great knife, I've also been very happy with my Benchmade Mini-Griptilian 555. It a 3" blade but can handle most EDC chores. Love the blade shape, comfy handle and smoooooooooooooooooooth axis lock. They run about $55. I had a full size Griptilian and the handle was just too big and "hollow" feeling.

Like shotgunner, I've actually sold off all my other folders in the past few weeks (except the above and a beater Timberline Workhorse) since I'm finding out that between my Izula, RC3 and RC4 all my bases are pretty much covered...

The only prob with ordering an izula is that i dont always wear a belt. Does the izula fit well in a pocket?

Several folks here have pocketed one. The most common method seems to be attaching it to a belt loop via 550 cord and letting it dangle in your pocket. When you pull it out, the sheath stays attached to your belt loop. Seems like it would work, but I'll have to wait till mine gets here to try it out.

I typically tie it to my beltloop and slip it into my pocket, handle up.

It stays there nicely and allows me to pull it out quickly when needed and the sheath dangles until I need it.

I bought a Knivesshipfree holster made by sharpshooter sheaths for my izula. It has two compartments, one for the small bark river knives, and another for something a little larger of your choice. The izula fits perfectly in the second pocket. The entire rig fits very nicely in my back pocket.

Until RC makes a folder, I would recommend these:

I love my Izula, and many times use as my EDC knife, but sometimes I just prefer having a folder. I have an Emerson Snubby and it's great. Compared to other high end folders, it's cheap, and it being under 3 inches makes it legal everywhere I go.

That's how I carry mine. EDC-ed in the right front pocket. I do also EDC two folders, however--a Case swayback (sheeple friendly and opens packaging like a charm) and either a ZDP-189 Delica or a Benchmade 530. I use the Izula as my primary blade, but use the Delica/530 when I need to cut something FAST, and the Case when I need to be low-key or when I have blister packaging, etc.

All that being said, I'd love to have a RAT folder, and will patiently wait until it makes it to production down the line. :)

If you want a good folder that can do woodwork and some other outdoors stuff, the best grind would probably be a full flat (or at least a saber grind). Spyderco Tenacious (mentioned before) or Benchmade 551 Griptilian (the one with thumbstud and saber ground blade) is a good choice.

Other ones that come into mind would be like the SOG Flash II and SOG Aegis, though if you want steel liners for added strenght then they're out of the question.

From Cold Steel, maybe the Ultimate Hunter, though I get it if you're not into CS.

Spyderco Military. Problem solved.

Of course the Spyderco Endura 4 isnt bad either. I love carrying one of my 4 E4s in the woods because they are light, sharp, and they stay sharp.

I rotate through my Large CRK Sebenza, Spyderco Para-Military, and my new Bladetech Pro Hunter Extreme, all are great knives, but I love the Para-military's compression lock, so it probably wins out againt the other two most of the time. I'll see if I can find a photo of the three together.

Spyderco Endura or Delica with the emerson opener back. I have the delica with the emerson back and its pretty cool, easy open, sturdy knife, not too big either.

I love my Military so I guess I'd have to go with the Para since you already threw the name out there.

I think I would get the Parmililitary as well. You said the name, so why not go with what seems like your first thought at the time.

You can't go wrong with the para-military!!

I haven't completely made up my mind yet, but I think I prefer my S30V para-military to my D2 para-military.

The Kershaw Shallot makes a pretty nice knife. It is thin, can be disassembled for cleaning and adjustment, and seems to be quite stainless. My only complaint about it was that it has a bit of recurve to the blade. It looks good, but makes it a bit harder to sharpen. Here is one I polished:

and this is the same one in the matte finish it comes with:

The knife is a framelock that is quite beefy, and the clip works for tip up or down carry for a right handed person.

i decided to go with a byrd cara cara as i saw one at a local yardsale. i love it! I have decided to get my dad a good knife for fathers day. U guys the tenacious would be good? Of course id also have to order myself one also lol. I think he would like a good folder.
