Best edge retention.

This quote is from March this year. You were in the thread too! :D

Edit: Well upon reading the thread a little more did the Maxamet mule come out after this thread? Sorry I'm not up to speed Bill!
From what I could tell, the Maxamet was released prior to that statement made by Sal. I did see a statement dated Sept. 1 2016 that announced the Manix 2 and Native in Maxamet, and they were not announced until after the Mule was a ready in the publics hands.

The quote below was taken directly from the article, in which the writers and Spyderco said the following:
"The positive feedback from Mule Team mainstays probably had something to do with Maxamet’s quick move to production models, but Spyderco has also been testing it in-house for some time. 'We also did extensive scientific testing on Maxamet’s performance, edge retention, and toughness and found that it easily rivaled the very best steels we’ve ever used,' they say."

I think we're shaving hairs here, friends. Sorry that I have to date every comment by another fellow. Anyway, I think I was just trying to make a point; not to talk about absolutes. Thanks, knifebro, for your post.

You don't have to take note of anythings date, but I was trying to get you as accurate of information as possible. Not only that, but I was willing to do the legwork since I was I the thread referenced, so please don't complain...

If you just want information that was accurate at one point or another, regardless of current standings, then ATS-34 has the best edge retention.

I mean, back in the day it did, but dates don't matter, right?
;)

NJB...
I did take note when you said..."This is false." At this point, really don't care, as dates don't matter, right?
My note was meant to be informational; not confrontational. I stand in awe of your expertise.
I mean..."Good Grief!"

I don't like to beat around the bush. If it was too up front for you, then...
When I saw a statement that wasn't what was said by the source, I attempted to correct it. In that post, I was also incorrect, and as soon as I found out, I corrected myself (see post #41).

So see, we are both capable of stating misinformation, don't put me on a pedestal unless your right there beside me, Buddy!
;):D:rolleyes:

It is not heat treated but, work hardened means. The more you sharpen the steel the greater the edge's hardness becomes. THe serrations due to the grinding process vastly increase the blades hardness. You come away with a hard edge that tapers back to a softer steel further back. Giving it the best of both words in regards to blade edge retention and durabllity. Theres several interviews with Sal or Eric discussing the properties of h1 and how it has out cust any steel they have tested. You can also just call up spyderco and ask them- they would be happy to explain it for you if you dont belive me.

I have used h1 for years now. Its keeps an edge and cuts more stuff longer than anything I have ever used. The more you sharpen it the harder the edge the better the retention. non serrated h1 out of the box is about as good as vg10. However it will get better over time.

Hers a vid of Eric talking about it breifly.

Wrong again. That's not how work hardening functions.
