I just received this in the mail today and I think it's the best blade etch I've ever seen, I know it's the best I have. If anyone has any info on the process or who the artist was, I'd love to know about it.

I'l be slowing down on the collecting for a bit since I just bought another Harley today, but you never know.

Dave, Buck started etching in their plant at EL Cajon in 1990 . Its from there but I don't know any more about it . Very artisticly done . DM ;)

:rolleyes:You need to get your priorities straight Plum. Harleys can hardley interfere with the fever.

If that has to be your last for a while, shes a beauty.

I'll believe it when I dont see it:D

The four color Bald Eagle was etched by Aurum. As DM noted the X year stamp is for 1990. However, this is a 1988 LE issue as documented in the BCCI list & Blades Guide. The one I have also has the 1990 X stamp, I know there are several of these in the collections of folks here, anyone have one of these with an earlier year stamp?

:confused:Ok jb, I'll bite. how does a 1990 blade get on a 1988 LE knife? I could understand the other way around but....ahh.....please explain and type slowly:p

Good question Fritz,

I wish I had a real answer for you. All I can say is "Sh.. Happens", IE: the 2009 catalog shows the Paradigm would be available 8/31 and many folks are still waiting for it to happen.....go figure. That is why I asked if anyone has one with an 88 or 89 date stamp.

Maybe the four colors etch was hard to do. Look at PBD's photo that eagle is a fantastic looking knife and I always wondered why they did not do more versions of this etching style. The only other four colors etch I have seen is 110 Dave's Duck's in flight, his is the only one of those I know of.

That is very nice LB,

Do you know the story of that non-color version?

I am totally out of this game....but to the contributors, (and I don't want to sound like a school marm), this is a great thread with everyone talking about what they know, good photos, showing there references and what, where, when and how they got the info. Thanks JB and guys. Now if someone would include a picture of them gutting a deer with one I would feel like a totally complete B'holic.....300

300, I saw one hit on the road but I don't think I'd go back for it if I had one of those knives on me and sharp . DM

Actually, 300B......to make the thread PERFECT they'd have to show a guy gutting out a deer shot in 1988 with a knife stamped 1990 (and show a copy of the 1988 deer license to prove it).

Time travel is the only way to explain the amazing claims made here.

Bizarre science fiction, but at least it's not boring.

:)

Now, don't we all have to admit that the most likely explanation is simple? The historical information is wrong.

Typos happen. The knife couldn't be issued in 1988 with a blade made in 1990.

Unless......

Consider the following as a possibility: A gold etch project is commenced in February2005 and an initial number of the knives are completed and shipped. In January 2007, the customer decides to have another run of the knives produced. In January 2009 they order still another run. The project will show up in archives as being from 2005 but blades with the same gold etch may exist from 2004 (if leftover blades were used) through 2009. This is an extreme example but it should help show how the issue in question is possible without the initial date being wrong. I have seen sample gold etch knives with date marks as much as three years earlier than found on the final actual project knives.

jb, could you tell me where to find that list? I can't seem to find it on the BCCI website.

I see the knife in question listed in the 1990 catalog.

Yes Dave I'm happy too,

As you know the BCCI list and the Blade Guide are sectioned by year of issue. Go to the 1988 issue page and the Eagle info is the 12th item listed under Model#110E5.

I just looked at the main dealer catalogs also and this knife is listed as "NEW" in the 1990 catalog. Maybe we can get Richard to comment on this He is a subject matter expert on the SP/LE info.

Added Info: BCCI News Letter "Mar 89", page #1. Info about this issue under "New Editions available now at any Buck Dealer" and one of the knives listed is the 4 color Eagle 110.

I'm going to throw another idea in the works. I will have to check my records but Baron Technologies may have done this etch and I know they did Dave's three color duck knife from the same time period. Stay tuned!

Thanks Larry & Richard for your input. Richard it will be interesting to hear what you find out on this topic.

In the old news letters I did see that Aurum was having financial issues at this time. There was info on the Chuck Buck gold etch 103. Aurum had the project for 1000 knives and after the first 200 were made, Buck stopped the project with Aurum and gave it to Baron. Aurum has the copyrights to the 1st Artwork so Baron had to do their own artwork. If I understand what was written there are two different versions of the Chuck Buck 103. 200 from Aurum and another 1000 from Baron. Cool stuff, I wonder if this also happened with the 4 color Eagle.
