Steels can be very strong and at the same time very brittle. This is how strength and toughness are related, as you increase one *in general* you decrease the other.
As for BG-42 at 62+ RC, it is more brittle than Bg-42 at 60 RC unless something very interesting is happening with the heat treat. Is it more brittle than ATS-34 at 60RC - don't know. Is it more brittle than most carbon steels at 60 RC - yes, by a large margin I would assume.
