whats your choice for a fixedblade knive in the 4 to 5 inch range in the bush.also what steel and what blade shape and the grinde.

I'm interested in seeing what people that can't afford a Busse or a Bark River or any other knife that's over $200 have to say.

Usually I notice threads go like this:

OP: What is a good knife to get for ________? I want to keep it under $150
Replier: Get a Busse. They are definitely worth it.

Of course they are worth it but not everyone can afford those knives.....

Or the classic:
OP: I want a good quality folder for the price.
Replier: Get a sebbie.
Replier #2: Sebbie!
Replier #3: Get a Sebenza!

Well that turned into a rant from a poor guy, now didn't it? Apologies...

BRKT Fox River. Can find them for $120-$140 if you look around. My favorite all-arounder.

nobody has said mora yet!

the fallkniven f1 looks good. They should make it in 3v, 10v, a2 etc...

I would say go with a 4 inch blade, and have it in drop point fashion. Have some stain resistant coating perhaps on the blade too if you want it to last longer. I would tell you to buy a TAK with D2 steel, although you can get it in 1095 too. I prefer the D2 for the hard use applications, but that is just my preference. You need to know how to sharpen the harder steel, which is why people opt for the more softer 1095. Here is a picture and low down:

Click on the wilderness forum link in my sig and you will find 10 years of posts recommending bush knives! :D

Swamp Rat Swamp Warden. You can find them for $90 - $100 on the secondary market. If the "Store" would put more up at their original price of $60 it would be the best deal on the net. Every bit the equal of the RAT-3 if not better.

Edited: This is not within your parameter of 4-5 inches. Still I stand by this recommendation.

fallkniven s1 is a good bush knife, you can get it for around 100$.its laminated VG-10 steel, convex grind

Look at the Kabar and Ontario Marine knives. 45-75 bucks will buy you a great bush knife. This OLD Ontario has chopped more brush and Bush than most knives will ever see.

I'll second that. I had an older, stacked leather handle version that built quite a few shelters, cut trees for poles and fuel, and cleared roots out of campsites and foxholes alike.

I'm not saying others aren't good or even better - I really haven't tried very many. But for the money, a classic Ka-Bar will serve you well.

I personally like my Nimravus($100-$150?,154cm), Masterhunter(carbon V, $100) and Revolver(Aus 8, $80). American prices of course. :D

I really like this one so far it is under a 150 dollars made of 0-1 5 " blade 3/16 thick how you want it made you choose hand made knife and hand made sheath. Great slicer.
Good all round knife for the out doors. Here is the pic.

did you make that sicily? or is there a maker. I like the look of that slicer.

It's hard to pick a favorite since I like all my knives, but they share some common features that I find perfect. Flat ground, drop point, thick Micarta scales, not too thick or too thin, carbon steel.
