I say spend a few dollars more and get a fallkniven f1 or s1. I think there's one on the exchange NIB for like 112. That is a damn steal. I have both there some of the nicest knives out there and they beat the hell out of kabar's and such. if not go with the nighthawk. Also very nice
I am not a big fan of most of the Gerber blades, but I have used a Gerber LMF 2 for over a year now. And have had great results with it, it is tough, able to baton with no problem. Takes and holds and edge fairly well and is Easy to grip. You can get them from La police gear for around 70 bucks. Botach also sales these for around the same price. Here’s a link. http://www.botachtactical.com/gelmfiiinkn.html The only thing I really see wrong with the LMF 2 is that the handle if you use it allot, you will see the blade end of the handle material (the guard) begin to chip a little. hell I have knocked chunks out of mine but this in no way effects the overall use of the knife. The tip is almost indestructible and the blade is highly chip resistant . I think Noss did a test on this knife. So you may want to check his website out http://www.knifetests.com/. If you can come up with the extra cash though. The guys here recommending the fallkniven f1 are right on that sucker is tough. If you want a good carbon blade the Kabar will do the job well. This is typically were I would suggest taking a look at the Ontario line up, but I am kind of at them right now…
I bought new Fallkniven F1 for less than $100 new from a web retailer several months ago. Has the exchange rate caused their prices to skyrocket since then?
Regardless, the F1 or the S1 would be excellent choices.
Thanks for all the advice, I think I'm going to hunt around for a price on the Fallkniven s1. Although the Kalinga is mighty pretty and i love my s30v
