Best Hollow handle Survival knife

The answer, of course, is Chris Reeve.

Why are the Chris Reeve guards too small? That's like saying, "The Chris Reeve knives are too black."

The guards are too small for me if I want to stab boars with the knife...And I do want to have the option of doing just that.
If you hit bone and the hand slips over the guard then you are in big trouble.
The size of the guards on the CRK are the way they are due to the fact that they are made froma single piece of steel. Good and bad.

Cheers,

André

Andre,

I think the aggressive checkering on the handle would more than make up for any slight size deficiencies of the guard. That knife will just stick in your hand-- it ain't going anywhere.

Don't leave the CRK one piece line out of your options. They are terrific tools.

Nice boar!

Thanks

This was his brother :D
I like CRK very much and especially the Skinner model.
I just think that the bigger models need a bigger guard. JMO

André

I don't think even Chris Reeves ever considered that his hollow handle knives would be used for CQPH(Close Quarters Pig Hunting).I believe you use a Cold Steel Trailmaster CV(no problem with guard?)?Chris might have envisioned his Rehoboam or Jeroboam lashed to a stout pole and used as an expedient spear though. All the best in controlling those pesky porkers(wish I were there!! :) )

Microtech!!! :p :)

Bet a lot of you didn't know MT just released a very nice 1 piece, hollow handle fixed blade. :) The first run is with blades handground by Tony M. himself, later I believe they will be machine ground and regular production.

154 CM, 4" blades, the screw cap is heat colored titanium. I'm trying very hard to afford one of them as we speak. :) Who would have ever thought Microtech could actually be an answer to the question posed in this thread? :)

Rather than a hollow handled knife, why not just get a good solid, full-length tang knife, that has a pouch or two on its' sheath?

I agree. This way, if you lose the knife, you still have the rest of your supplies. I like the Becker Crewman.

Those Microtechs look pretty nice, but I wouldnt want to try stabbing a boar with one. I dont think there is a good answer to the original question.

Thanks for the many good posts and links.
I lke the Bill Sanders survival very much. Looks like the old Original Timberline.
The Al Mar SF10 is a very cool knife and I have one on hand.

Cheers,

André

The XO concurs..... the Microtec knife is way cool. But small, it could fit inside the handle of my Lile knife :D
That knife is for serious selfdefence and not out door survival. IMO

Cheers,

André
