I am wanting to make a Horizontal sheath for my Bark River Kephart Companion - to be carried with my Kephart.

Post up what you find is the best horizontal carry sheath - any material - any design.

I have a nice little scandi with a kydex sheath. I ran some cord through the grommets to effectively make a couple of sideways belt loops, and I like that carry alot.

I wear it in the middle of the back of my pants, with one loop on either side of the middle belt loop (to keep it centered during drawing and sheathing).

I think I could trust hard waxed leather, if it came up high on the handle.

I carry all my Barkies cross draw on weak side in SharpShooters factory sheath. Love the way they ride in that position! Horizontal enough and well covered by shirt. :)

Bryan Breeden makes a really nice one. Hopefully he'll chime in on this one.

Integral (I strongly dislike Tek-lock) kydex weak side cross over.

Safe, secure, covert, and very comfortable with any movement.

Breeden's is similar to the last one you did Talfuchre. I really enjoy this sheath for how close it sits to your body when on the belt in horizontal or vertical carry. I'm using Bryan's picture here, I don't have a shot of one since the sheath is inevitably on my belt when I'm taking shots.

In all truth though, I have to admit liking carrying a blade vertical for the most part.

Hi all,
I have been making a them since CM Gray sent me a pic of what he wanted I did not make another sheaths but the foldover.

Thanks Ken for the pics. you posted.

J that is a interesting one you posted a link of.

Bryan you brought a crude drawing to life. You deserve the credit in my book. That Pathfinder is working out great.

Hi all.
CM Gray, LOL your drawing was just fine. Thanks again for sending it to me.
I really like that way of carrying a knife on my shoulder strap.
Glad you to hear your pathfinder is working out great. .

Tf you are welcome LOL.

Heres one I did up for a Bailey.

The original works good too, but I wanted something I could quickly take off my belt if needed.

Well, it has to be this one...

Because, Bear Grylls endorses it, of course....

PS - I am just taking the piss. Bear seems to be a genuinely nice person, I just wish he would stop being such a dumb*ss on national TV. M

Actually I have never seen him use his own knife on his show, the few times I caught it....before going back to reading when it was/is on!

Personally I really like the kydex sheaths from dozier. I carry my knives on the strong side and draw toward the back. I don't notice the knife there all day. And I carry ten every day. Better yet, when I have an intucked t-shirt on you can't see the knife. I know a lot of guys carry tries weak side for a cross draw but prefer mine on the strong, probably because my belly doesn't push into it when sitting.

I do agree about the Dozier horizontal Kydex sheaths. I've been using my Professional Skinner for my hunting knife for the past several years. I carry it for a simple cross draw and it works great. The only issue is that if you're carrying a pack with a waist belt, it doesn't work so well...

I love this type of horizontal/vertical attachment:

Gives you the option of carrying vertical, which will ride under a waistbelt as it hugs the body well (I would still prefer a drop loop attachment) much more comfortably, but when woods-bumming without a large pack, the horizontal cross-draw option, is much easier to access and resheath.

J - what does he mean 'Retention lug'?

Bryan - I used your X design on the back for mine. Thanks! ;)

TF

The way the blade goes into the sheath, it snaps in. The way it is stitched, the handle "pops" in, and when you unsnap the strap, it "pops" out, kinda jumping into your hand. When I first got it, It took a while to get used to the sheath, but after I did, I really began to love it. I wish they would do one up for the Gunny...

Add another vote for the Dozier kydex.
I can easily forget my Straight Personal is on my belt.
