Thinking this might be a good Picture to put people in the mood. :D

Sorry, but I was in 20 years ago so we didn't have the desert camo then.

Good knives and nice pics Ank, any one of 'em would be good to go. My old BAS ain't quite as pretty with it's scabbard wrapped in OD green "100 mile an hour tape", sporting a homemade cowhide frog I had to fabricate when it's original busted in Afghanistan, or with all the scratches on it's blade. But, it's good to go too.:D

Sarge,

I thought so too. :D

You know how Marines are with their knives. :D

Ank, is that 18" GS as sweet as it looks? I've got a line on one by way of some "horse trading", and it was no-kidding made by Bura. Uncle mentioned that Pala said GS's ought to be issued to ghurkas, instead of what they're getting now. That's an endorsement for them that's hard to overlook.

Sarge,

Yes it is, made by Kumar is is balanced very well and it has a mirror finish, very well done.

I still say the GS is the best choice for a weapon from what I have seen.

I have thought about this a bunch. I would take one of my favorites in a 15 inch size. 15 inches is A LOT BIGGER tham most "combat" type knives and will do more than most. I have a villager by Sanu that is very nice and a few 15-16 inch AK's I like. I also have a Ghopte that is 15 inches long 1/2 thick and over 2 1/2 wide that would be a fine knife.
I would take one of these and my Charles Marlowe fraim lock with a 3/16 thick 1 inch wide BG42 bladed pocket knife.

I agree with SkagSig. A 15in Khukuri is bigger than most other knives carried in the military. The actual Gurkhas carry a SN-1/BAS in the 15-16 inch variety. They are the real authority on this subject.

I just ordered a 15" khuk (Sirupati) to toss in my duffel bag 'cause things look "iffy". My logic is if a big khuk is a burden to carry, you might leave it behind when you really ought to have it.

However, there's some young men training right now in Kuwait for possible trench warfare in Iraq that might want something a little bigger on their LBE. I wouldn't blame 'em a bit.

   Trench Warfare

Thinking maybe a 18" WWII might be the best choice if that is the case.

Do you think that a heavier Khuk has an advantage in a fight? I figured it would be the opposite, slower blade and all. It seems that a light knife would be better in a fight and easier to carry, and as mentioned there aren't too many trees in the desert.

Thinking a slightly heavier Khuk in the trench warfare role because of multiple targets and close quarters so you would want the extra chopping power of the WWII.

The 18" WWII isn't that slow either. :D

Guys, by bigger I didn't necessarily mean heavier. An 18" GS, Siru, or WWII, would all handle plenty quick, provide an advantage in reach (you don't want to swap cuts), and have enough weight to chop off whatever enemy body part that's closest to you.

When I was in Desert Storm I had a lot of respect for the guys that had to go in and clear enemy trenches and bunkers. Any HI khuk would hold it's own in a fight, but I'd trade any of 'em for a good scattergun and a bandolier of buckshot if it was me going in the trench.

I wound up with a shotgun and a demo pouch of #4 Buckshot. An 18" Siru would have been nice. In Elephant Grass you some times get pretty close. :)

Don't forget, the battle axe was, some say, the ultimate "one shot" stop of it's day. And it's "day" was proven over a two thousand year period. The falchion of 500 years ago and falcata of 2500 years ago, not to mention the bills and polearms, did the job decisively.

The khuk is the eyeball to eyeball 'compact' version of the before common era and medieval choppers. They are still feared by opponents today because what they do looks like "overkill".

And then there is my recommendation of the 18" WWII for Trench Warfare. :D

Rusty,

I have to admit that the longer I have the Bura 18" WW II the more I like it and the balance. :D
