Not under and not over. I would have to say some spydercos like the Delica 4 and also the benchmade 556.

Spyderco Native, older Enduras, and various Cold Steel models are my favorites. Always surprised the regular FRN Native never gets mentioned any more, but suspect its because a lot of people only want FFG and/or G-10 now.

I put a thread on the Spyderco sub-forum asking for an Endura sized folder with old Endura blade shape and Compression Lock for $65-70...think it would be very dominant in this price range. A lot of Spydie fans seem to think it's strange to want a Compression Lock folder under $100 though for some reason. I'm holding out for it but the collectors greatly out-number me.

My line of thinking is go for best design (lock mechanism, handle shape, etc.) with B+ materials for a good price so I've rarely ever gone over $70. Durable knives at working man prices is what it's all about.

Not sure if Spyderco could manufacture a compression lock knife for much less than they do now.

Lemme see... Benchmade Griptilian, Cold Steel Voyager XL (2011 version), Cold Steel Rajah II, Cold Steel Recon 1, SOG Trident, CRKT M21-14DSFG. These are just the ones I have owned, but they were all very good for the price.

There are 2 compression lock Spydies under $100....

In the OP's budget though, the Manix 2 or Endura IMO. "Best" is relative though. Best at what?

Which ones are they jossta? Lowest priced one I ever see is Paramilitary 2 and its usually $105++

ol_sc - If they can do Native's with S30V, FRN handles, made in USA for $60 and Manix 2 with 154CM, G-10, and made in USA for $70...I think they could pull off a Compression Lock for $65-70. 440C and FRN would be just fine.

I was partially being a smart ass, but Yojimbo 2 and Para 2 are both $95 w/ free shipping from Cutlery Shoppe.

My advice to you: scrimp for a month, eat ramen, drive less, etc. Save yourself the extra $30 and get a PM2.

No Kershaw's have been mentioned yet. Skyline (if you want to spend $70 get two of them), Blur, Packrat, Speed Bump, Leek, RAM, and non-composite Junkyard Dog are all in that price range, and I think this is where Kershaw shines. The new Echelon is in that price range. I am still waiting on mine but I bet it will be awesome. If you told me I had to spend that much money I would pick a Kershaw more often than not, then some FRN Spydercos. I like G10 much better and that is why more Kerhsaws get the nod.

which knife in particular would depend on it's intended purpose.

here are a few good folding knives in that price range:

spyderco delica and endura
benchmade 555/556
buck vantage pro
cold steel american lawman
kershaw junkyard dog 2
