Spyderco G-10 Dragonfly. Fairly small, but stout little lockback with great VG-10 steel. (between $70-$80 bucks)

If you want something larger and can scrape together another $30 or so I suggest getting the Spyderco Military. After owning dozens of knives it is a design I find myself coming back to often (it helps that I own three of them).
If you want a beast of a folder and you don't mind sharpening re-curves my second recommendation is the Kershaw ZT0200.
If you think you'll like manipulating the compression lock then the Spyderco Para 2 actually comes close to your budget, and is an amazing little (3.5") folder all around.

IMHO the Spyderco PARA 2 is the best knife for under $100.
I got mine shipped for $91.75, and feel its one of the best knife bargins out there.

Buck Vantage Pro (large) For $60 is a steal. Pocket the extra $40.

If you want a monster (and don't mind a recurve blade) - check out the exchange here. Kershawguy has some ZT 200 blems for $89.
Some Blurs for short money too. Good deals.

Another vote for ZT 200 from Kershawguy. Excellent man to buy from!

So my lovely wife was kind enough to back pay me on my allowance for the last 13 years. I then combined that $7.35 with some I had saved up and came up with $100. I am fairly new to the knife world as I have relied on Old-Timer and Buck to carry me through my life. I would like anyones opinion on this matter- What folder knife would you buy today if you had $100?

What I'd buy again would be a Cold Steel American Lawman. I wish it had better steel but out of all my folders, Spyderco, BM, Emerson, Kershaw, Buck, etc., it's the best folding knife I've owned.

I would definitely go with the Benchmade 710, but there is no way I am going to find it for $100.00

I also "vote" for the Cold Steel American Lawman...For something slightly larger, the Cold Steel Recon 1 is also a very good folder, and also well under your $100 mark.

I would definitely go with the Benchmade 710, but there is no way I am going to find it for $100.00

How about $113.83 shipped via Priority Mail? There is a store online selling them at this price. Email me if you want details. I've done business with them a couple times, so I know they are good to go. I am sure that you could also get a Forum Dealer here to match that price also. Just an option if you really want a BM 710.

Man, spyderco doesn’t make flippers, and if you want assisted you gotta’ go kershaw, sog or others. Benchmade makes blades that have the hole for opening, but not the “wave” function, then if you want the wave Emmerson doesn’t make full flat grind, so maybe I second the Cold Steel Recon 1 or Spyderco paramilitary 2 :D

Para 2 or Stretch. I got the Stretch in fully serrated.. my first fully serrated knife.. and it is awesome. Much more versitile than I ever thought.. I still dislike partial serrations, but love the full. And Spyderco is my favorite.. Benchmade used to be on the list but I've not been happy with the quality of my last few.

buy something very inexpensive keep the rest of the money and when you get a feel for what you like whether that may be tactical folders, traditional slipjoints, classic lockbacks, SAKS and multitools, or even fixed blades. There are many threads about bargain knives. Many many great knives are under $60. Happy knifin! (BTW i strongly suggest trying very small knives first to see if they can do everything you need a knife to do.)
